Lair of the Unidragon, Page Twenty-Nine

The instant you step into the right-hand tunnel, the fresh air smell disappears entirely and the smothering smell of the tunnels comes back stronger than ever, mixed with a strange odor you can't quite identify. "Hey," you mutter to yourself, feeling cheated. Where the rest of the maze was dimly lit, this tunnel is pitch-black. You pull a torch out of your backpack, finding it by feel, and strike it against the wall. You turn around and of course the way behind you is now walled off.
Even with your torch, you can barely see a few inches in front of your face. Cautiously you step into the room--and find yourself ankle-deep in filthy, slimy, blackened water. A terrible stench assaults your nostrils. Gagging, you force yourself on. You have to--the way back doesn't exist.
Suddenly, you trip over a bump in the floor, obscured by the murky water. You fall flat on your face, your torch falling in the water--but it doesn't go out! Oh, no. In fact, the room is MUCH brighter now.
You see, that black water was actually OIL, and now the entire room is ablaze with ceiling-high flames. Your clothes, your hair, your skin is completely soaked with oil, and the only way to put out the flames that are even now consuming you alive would be to wash the oil off. Even if there WAS a way out of here, you'd still be dead.
But there isn't.
