Lair of the Unidragon, Page Thirty-Eight
As you go further and further down the right-hand tunnel, the strange noises increase steadily in volume, but become no more recognisable. The air gets hotter and hotter as you go, and a strong smell of sulphur begins to clog your nostrils. The air is stifling and it gets hard to breathe. Finally, the low-ceilinged tunnel opens into a huge domed cavern, and all is revealed.
In the middle of the cave is no less than a miniature VOLCANO--dormant at the moment, thank goodness. It is bubbling and gurgling--that's one sound explained.
And the other is a doozy--winding up the side of the volcano is a solemn procession of giant SPIDERS. Each is easily the size of a full-grown Human. They each have ten legs instead of eight, and they're chanting in a strange language--presumably a prayer to their volcano-god or something.
Intelligent giant spiders? Perhaps now would be a good time to slip out before they see you. But then you notice something. The lead spider is carrying a large sack, which is squirming and wriggling as if there's someone inside it. Anybody who got this far must be after the Goldensword, too--and might know something! Should you try to rescue the sack and interrogate the person in it, if there is one?
On the other hand, if they ARE after the sword, you could just sit back and let the spiders conveniently get rid of a potential competitor for you...
Whatever you decide, decide fast. The lead spider is just about to dump the sack into the volcano's mouth.
