| Their coming was foretold
in the Dead Sea Scrolls which were
written anywhere from 200B.C. to 100A.D. The Evangelions
were created for the sole purpose of protecting mankind from them. It was once
thought that they could be "Advanced Humans" who had been able to evolve
past their physical boundaries, but that theory was trashed when the Third
Impact occured and the final stages of man's evolution were
truly revealed.
Their only objectives are to seek
and become one with Adam, the First
Angel and to test the human spirit and will to survive and "evolve". As
the seventeenth Angel (Kaoru Nagisa)
proved, they do not want to initiate the Third Impact by coming in contact
with Lilith. This must be left up to
mankind.
They are beings that possess a variety
of forms and threaten mankind's existence. They have taken the shape of
giants, microscopic computer viruses, pure energy, and even that of a human
boy.
No matter their shape, every Angel
has an AT Field, or "Light of Mind" barrier that is considered Holy Territory
and that should not be befouled by unholy cretins (i.e. humans). |

"Angels"
are biological in nature and share 99.89% of their genetic code with humans,
even if their constitution are enormously different. An incubating Angel
is nearly identical to a human foetus and becomes monstrous only in the
last stage of its growth. Instantneous regeneration and AT
Field (Absolute Terror Field), an energy barrier powerful enough
to sustain a thermonuclear blast, are only part of their fantastic powers. |

The first angel created by God, but
is the second Angel found by man. Found in the Antartic region.

Lilith
The second angel created by God,
but is the first Angel found by man long before the "Second
Impact". It is still a mystery how Lilith lost her legs and
captured by NERV. |

Sachiel
Humanoid in shape and one of the
toughest Angels.

Shamusial
Amphibian and uses beam whips as
its weapon. |
 |
Angel #5:
Ramiel
Monstrous octahydral shape with powerful
beams and drill. Attacks any target within certain specified range. |

Gaghiel
Similar to a whale. Attacked the
EVA-02
during transfer to NERV HQ. |

Angel #7:
Israfel
Was splitted in two perfectly synchronized
halves. Require synchronized simultaneous attack at both cores to destroy them. |

Angel #8:
Sandalphon
Originally found in a active volcano,
still in its pupil form. This mission took Asuka a little Scuba diving effort, a pretty hot one, that is. |

Matriel
Used acid as its main weapon and
looked like a balloon with spider legs. |

Sahaquiel
Very aggressive, would drop piece's
of itself from Earth orbit to bombard the surface. |

Iruel
Form was in billion's of microscopic
entities when it invaded Nerv [rather the 3 Magi computers]. |

Leliel
Appeared as a giant black "shadowball". Swallows anything that come into the shadow. |

Bardiel
Originally the EVA-03 but was later
infected by an Angel "virus". The pilot was trapped inside. |

Angel #14:
Zeruel
A walking wreaking ball...rolled
right through Nerv defense & the Eva's...very powerful, one of the
strongest Angel's. For weapons, the fourteenth Angel had ultra sharp, whip-like
blades for arms and a photon discharge from its "mouth". |

Arael
Appeared in form of pure light...it
attacked by mind "raping" its target..physcologically painful attack..[as
Asuka found out near the end of the series]. |

Armisael
A shape shifting Angel, had the form
of a double helix closed up in a circle. |

Tabris [Kaoru Nagisa]
This was the least expected, born
on the same day was the 2nd Impact was indeed the final messenger of mankind's
