Job Skills and Experience

I have currently completed or taken three computer classes at the college level.  I have also had two classes at the high school level on computers.  I can use both Windows 3.1/95/NT and Macintosh operating systems.  I also have a rudimentary knowledge of the VAX operating system.  I already know how to use Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Lotus, DBase, ClarisWorks, Photoshop, Quicken, Eudora Pro, and Netscape Communicator.  I have a basic knowledge of HTML and creation of Internet “Web Pages.”

I have had college courses on problem solving and General Engineering.  The General Engineering courses had an emphasis on Mechanical Engineering.  I have also had classes in Management, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Statistics, Calculus, Government, and Business Communication.

My third summer working for the Dept. of Transportation was spent working in the District Nine Right of Way Dept.  In this job I did courthouse research on land ownership.  I also did the majority of the general troubleshooting and computer repair in the Right of Way offices.  I also worked on the District Nine Web Page and taught others how to create these web pages.

In my first two years at the Dept. of Transportation I worked for the Buildings and Grounds Dept. of District Nine.  With them I have done general repair work including replacing windows, repairing roofs, and assisting in the repair of air conditioners.  I have also been part of a group of five assigned with erecting a small building.  In my duties I have also run fibre-optic cable between buildings and installed florescent lighting.

At the Office of Academic Computing at West Virginia University I was a part-time work study employee.  I was assigned to work in the office and answer calls at the help desk when the lab consultants were unavailable.  It was my job to make sure that the person either had their question answered or was redirected to a person who could answer their question.  When the consultants were not present I was in charge of a computer lab of fifty-five computers and one to two other work study employees.  When not in the office I was checking student ID’s at the door or helping the consultants with problems at one of the other two computer labs run by Academic Computing on the WVU campus.

As a lifeguard at the Ronceverte City Pool I was responsible for the life of every child in the pool.  When not on duty and a guard I worked in the office, and snackbar.  I was also responsible for cleaning the pool facilities (deck, bathrooms, office, and the pool itself) every three to four days.

As a ticket runner at the state fair I was responsible for stamping people’s hands as they entered and taking their tickets.
