Past

Cute lil'James...

James was born into a very, very rich house. His parents didn't pay too much attention to him; they saw him as an heir, and nothing more. James' only friend on his parent's estate was his loyal Growlithe, Growlie.

At an early age, James' parents decided that James was to marry a "friend" of his, Jessibelle (I admit, I have *no* idea how to spell her name =P). His parents absolutely adored Jessibelle, they felt that she would become the perfect refined wife for James to share his fortune with. Of course, sometimes parents can be just a *little* naive...James absolutely *despised* Jessibell, with much good reason to. Jessibell was a spoiled, bratty little rich girl who tried to turn James into a "proper young man". She constantly told him that he wasn't doing something "properly" (i.e. the way he ate spaghetti and the way he ran...). Jessibell *also* had some weird, um, interest for playing games with James that involved whips and leather...Well, James eventually mustered up enough courage to get his little behind OFF of that estate, and he ran away with Growlie.

Soon after he ran away, young James was walking through a blizzard. He passed out from the cold, thinking that he was going to die. ^sniff, sniff...^ What happened afterwards is unclear to him. The next thing he remembers is enrolling into Pokemon Technical, a superschool that teaches *everything* about Pokemon. Somewhere along the line, James met Jessie, who had also enrolled. The night before the entrance exams, they stayed up partying, knnowing that they would do great; unfortunately, though, they flunked. After failing to get into Pokemon Tec, James joined a bicycle gang in Sunnytown, where he became well-admired and respected by his teammates. He earned himself the name "Little Jim"; he was also referred to as "Trainer James" because he was the only person in the gang who still used training wheels... After leaving the gang for reasons unknown, James joined Team Rocket.

Probably five or so years after he ran away from his home, James learns that his parents are dead. Jessie and Meowth, knowing that James has probably received a fortune in inheritance, force him to go visit his parents' mansion to "pay respects". As soon as he arrives, though, his mother and father pop out of their coffins, alive and well. They tell him that if he *must* get married to his fiance NOW if he choses to receive his fortune. Jessie and Meowth, meanwhile, clad in "invisible costumes", aren't allowing James to talk. Instead, Jessie is providing his voice to fool his parents (and doing an oh-so-wonderful job at it, too!) Jessie, eager to do anything to get money, agrees to it, although James (who can't talk at all...his mouth is being covered by Jessie) is trying hard to get her to say no. Anyway, they re-introduce Jessibell to James. She is still the same sadistic Southern sweetheart as before, but there is one even *stranger* quality about her...she looks *exactly* like Jessie! Well, Jeto make a long story short, Jessibell once again scares James off the estate, and he inherits nothing. James returns to Jessie and Team Rocket. Then and there, Jessie and James both decide that they may not have money, but no matter how unfortunate they may have been in the past, they are still fortunate to have their freedom.

Personality

James is often times very pretentious and melodramatic (he's always got a rose around to add drama, he passionately refers to them as "the flowers of love and romance"). Most of the time, he tries his hardest to be the best villain he can be. He can sometimes be very greedy ( "All for us!" ), superficial, and haughty ( *pointing to himself* "Who cares about inside? Outside counts!" ).

For the most part, though, James is generally a nice guy. Sometimes, he regrets being cruel, and I feel like he only does certain things because Jessie commands him to. This is demonstrated in the episode "The Mystery at the Lighthouse". James begins to shoot at an approaching Dragonite, but he hesitates:

James: But it seems a shame to aim at such a sweet creature!

Jessie: Of course it's a shame! We built our fame on shame!

James: Do we always have to mess up everyone's plans? Even *I* think this is rotten!

Jessie: Quit complaining! We could score big with this Pokemon!

In "Holy Matrimony", James shows how much he cares for his family. Even though they treat him very badly, he leaves Growlie behind to protect them. ^_^

James is also pretty sensitive; he cries alot and gets scared very easily. He's a big pushover; he'll usually do whatever Jessie or Meowth tell him to do. He does, though, have several intelligent tricks up his sleeve, some of which have actually come very close to working. For example, in the K-9 Squad episode, James concocts a plan to steal all of the Police Growlithe. By dressing up like Officer Jenny and using megaphones to make their voices sound like hers, they get the Growlithe to work on their side, but only until the Growlithe realize that they are attacking their true master ( the Growlithe "recognize what's in Officer Jenny's heart", yada yada... ). It's obvious, too, that James cares about his Pokemon. In "The Island of the Giant Pokemon", he's pretty distressed when he finds out that Koffing is gone, and when he's united with it, there's a tearful, happy reunion.
