Emerson is not going to Roma

Bayer Leverkusen coach Christoph Daum warned the many top European clubs interested in signing Emerson that the Brazil midfielder would be very expensive.

The German club said last month that Emerson was likely to move to Italy at the end of the season. AS Roma are regarded as the favourites to sign the gifted playmaker but Daum told a news conference on Thursday the offer they had made was not acceptable.

'He (Emerson) has a contract until 2002,' Daum said. 'We have several offers from clubs who are ready to pay 50 million marks or more. The 35 million (marks) offered by AS Roma are not good enough. We can wait.'

Leverkusen are second, two points behind Bayern Munich, in the German first division standings. They entertain MSV Duisburg on Saturday in their first match after the winter break.
