Bayern crash Real once again

Bayern Munich showed once more who's the best team in the group by beating Real 4-1. This match also will be warmly remembered by Bayern's veteran Lothar Mattheus who is now leaving Germany and moving to American MLS.

Mehmet Scholl opened the scoring for the Germans in just four minutes.
Bayern looked to pull four points clear of Real as Giovane Elber made
it 2-0 on the half-hour.
It was an emotional night for Bayern fans as their hero Lothar Matthaus made his farewell appearance before joining up with American club New
York Metro Stars on Friday.

Matthaus recently set a new world record for international caps and every German in the Olympic Stadium's 60,000 sell-out crowd was determined that he would go out as a winner. However Real, newly revitalized under caretaker manager Vicente del Bosque and with some sparkling form in Spain's Primera Liga behind them in recent weeks, refused to lie down and gave themselves some hope when Ivan Helguera pulled a goal back after 69 minutes.

But there was no denying Bayern as Alexander Zickler stepped up to put them 3-1 ahead and clear at the top of the group. Zickler got the fourth in the final minute.
Feyenoord, who crashed 3-0 to Herenveen in the Dutch League, regained some self-respect by holding Lazio to a goalless draw in Rotterdam.
