Germans are laughing at David Beckham

DAVID Beckham has become a target for German 'humor' as the Euro 2000 propaganda battle gathers pace before the summer's clash with England.

Germany's leading football magazine Kicker has published a mocked-up photograph of Beckham dressed in provocative woman's underwear - and a spoof interview in which he says he loves wearing mini-skirts and bikinis.

The sight of Manchester United star Beckham in stockings, suspenders and leather panties is a jibe prompted by wife Victoria's revelation that he wears her thongs.

The magazine's story is a prank for the German equivalent of April Fool's Day, the pre-Lent festival of Rose Monday.

The highly-respected weekly is not renowned for its belly laughs - and their spoof interview shows why.

They ask: "Mr Beckham, you frequently put on your wife Posh Spice's underwear. Have you asked UEFA yet for permission to wear a mini-skirt when playing in Euro 2000?"

Beckham replies: "The old men of UEFA had nothing against it, but our national coach Kevin Keegan does.

"He is afraid that if I wear one, I will end up getting man-marked too closely. But at least I have one consolation. He has allowed me to wear Victoria's new bikini in our hotel swimming pool!"

England face Germany in their second group match of Euro 2000 on June 17. They also play them in a World Cup qualifying tie in October.
