Lazio rescue one point in the last ten minutes in Seria A clash against Inter Lazio scored twice in the final 10 minutes to earn a 2-2 draw at home to 10-man Inter Milan on Saturday, keeping their second place in the Italian first division. Substitute Simone Inzaghi stabbed a shot past Angelo Peruzzi in the 81st minute of an intense tie at the Olympic Stadium before right back Giuseppe Pancaro fired home his side's equaliser from outside the box in the 87th minute. The draw put Lazio on 50 points, three behind Juventus who were due to travel to bottom club Piacenza on Sunday. Inter, who played the entire second half in 10 men after Colombian Ivan Cordoba was sent off for a challenge on fellow South American Marcelo Salas in the 41st minute, remain third on 47 points. The visitors took the lead entirely against the run of play, Recoba scampering on to a Luigi Di Biagio through ball and firing a left foot shot high into the Lazio net. Cordoba's dismissal, for what appeared to be a 50-50 challenge with Salas on the edge of the area, seemed destined to swing the tie Lazio's way. But although the Romans continued to dominate, they were thwarted by woeful finishing and an inspired performance from Angelo Peruzzi in the Inter goal. Salas missed two clear chances, Fabrizio Ravanelli's glancing header drifted harmlessly across goal early in the second half, Sinisa Mihajlovic's free kicks were unusually harmless and Lazio's midfield motor Juan Veron was reduced to several hopeful long range efforts. After 79 minutes Di Biagio connected with a pin point cross from Dutchman Clarence Seedorf to give Inter their second goal and seemingly kill off the match. But first Inzaghi and then Pancaro clawed the home side back into the match to give them a vital and deserved point. |
