Uefa Cup. Fourth round, 1st leg

Parma 1 Werder 0

Holders Parma dominated their UEFA Cup clash against Werder Bremen but will be disappointed to only take a 1-0 first leg lead to Germany in two weeks time.

Hernan Crespo's sixth minute goal was all that separated the two teams despite consistent pressure from the Serie A side at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.

Slavia Prague 1 Udinese 0

Slavia, who had several stars playing with the effects of a virus, were second best for much of the first half and Udinese's Roberto Muzzi tested the home goalkeeper Radek Cerny with an athletic overhead kick.

The Czech side gradually started to compete though and defender Libor Koller saw his header go just wide of the post just before the break.

Zanchi was fortunate to avoid being sent off when he appeared to handle the ball off his own goal-line but then his luck ran out when he headed the ball into his own net on 76 minutes as he tried to clear Ivo Ulich's cross.

The remaining six fourth round, first leg ties are scheduled for Thursday night.
