Van Gaal quits Barca!

Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal is to step down as coach of the Catalan giants after the club's final game of the season next week. "I've been a trainer here for three years, but I never understood the reaction of the supporters," the former Ajax coach explained. "Therefore I decided to leave despite the fact that my contract runs until June 2002."

Van Gaal won two La Liga titles with Barca and took them to two Copa del Rey successes and the European Supercup in 1997, but crucially despite his multi-talented squad he failed to win the European Cup.
