Two years after the defeat of Dark Star, Amelia's elder sister had finally returned- albeit in an intoxicated slumber carried in the arms of Gourry Gabriev at the side of the infamous Lina Inverse. Lina was glad to be rid of the tall, scantily clad woman whose laugh split ear drums. Naga- or Gracia as she had been properly named before her departure from Seyrune many years ago- had joined Lina once again when the group had separated after Dark Star, and proceeded to annoy even the easy going swordsman. While Amelia continued to receive the occasional visit from her vivacious friends (though less frequent since Gracia had been returned), she still had not heard from the cure-seeking chimera.
Shortly after Gracia's return, things in the kingdom had turned from peaceful to tense. The crown princes extended family began to turn up the heat as the current king lay on his death bed from some sort of illness as the result of some undiagnosed cause. It was all very hushed. There was great turmoil within the palace as everyone was on alert to threats against the life of Prince Phil, Amelia's father, the crown prince.
Amelia was anxious. She worried about helping Gracia reacquaint herself with palace life and her duties as a princess. She worried about Linas occasional visits with Gourry and placating the poor kitchen staff into serving the gargantuan helpings ordered by the two friends. She fretted during the nights about seeing Zelgadis, her chimera, ever again- he had promised to return her bracelet, had he not? Mostly, though, she worried over possible assassination attempts upon her beloved father. Still she maintained a brave and happy front for those around her.
They all needed her to be strong. Prince Phil had a busy agenda, the staff was all jitters; Gracia was like a stranger becoming accustomed to life with her family after so many years- and a now absent mother. With the mass confusion and tension running amok, she had to be brave.
