This house was built by my Great Great Grandfather, Tan Wu De in 1901. It was the first house that you'll see when one drives up from the South. It was only recently that this one street town became a two street town.

Sungei Bakap became a sleepy hollow ever since the government realigned the trunk road to bypass the town in the 80's. Previously, all travellers need to go through this town to go to Penang.

Sungei Bakap was founded by Kee Lian Huat at the end of the 19th century. The Kee mansion was frequently used for shootings of period drama. The recent Chinese New Year advertisement by Dunhill was filmed at the Kee's house.
