Committed to ministry with a mission, Family Tradition continues their long tradition of spreading the gospel through song to the lost, uplifting those who are oppressed, and offering hope and encouragement to the church body. Their rich blend of unique, family harmony, God-inspired original songs, and the anointing of the Holy Spirit makes Family Tradition one of the most dynamic ministries in the Tri-State area.
The group originated in 1981 as The Mt. Zion Trio, a unique, southern gospel ladies trio, backed by four outstanding musicians. Today, this Spartanburg, SC-based unit still has their original seven members and have added two additional ones. Their longevity in years coupled with the stability of personnel is unparalleled by few, if any, and is ever indicative of their love for the Lord, their fellow comrades, and of His Word in song.
The trio is comprised of Brenda Jonas, Angie Hollifield, and Judy Kneisley. Lib McElrath, who began playing the piano while as teenager, plays keyboards, and her piano solos are very much requested numbers wherever they appear. Allison Kneisley plays the violin and tambourine, and sings on some special numbers. Ralph Gilbert is one of southern gospel music's finest drummers. Angie's husband, Rusty Holifield plays bass for the group, drives the bus, and is the manager for the group. Rusty has been involved in southern gospel music for more than twenty years. Acoustic guitarist, Shane Davis, joined in 1994. His writing and singing abilities have proven to be of great asset to the group. The newest member is Chad McSwain, who joined in October, 1999 as lead guitarist. Chad is quite an accomplished musician, having worked with several well-known artists as a studio musician. The "unseen member," but the most important one in the group is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His presence is always felt by the members and the audiences wherever the group performs.
