Jim,
About 10 or 145 years ago, there was a big contest ad from the makers
of Clark bars that ran in the centerfold of most comics. The winner
of the contest got to be featured as a character in a comic book.
My questions are: Who won, and in which comics did they appear?
I've been wondering this ever since the ads ran all those years ago.
And while I'm at it, would you guys hire somebody
that has some back issues that you can refer to? When you pointed
out significant events in your "Heroes Return" special edition, the "moments"
were just plain pathetic. How could it be that Lee and Kirby gave
us no memorable moments in their 102 issues of Fantastic Four?
Somebody needs some serious history lessons around there!
Jim McLauchlin's response:
Erik refers to a promotion that ran in the summer of 1978 in Marvel
and DC books and several other comics (shown below). And whereas
I have much love for you, Erik, and much love for the Dragon, I must confess
that you have now torqued me off. You've stumped the band.
After consulting Marvel, DC, Clark Bar America, Hershey (the company that
bought out Leaf, then the parent company of Clark), The Chocolate Manufacturers'
Association and Confectioner magazine, I still have no answer.
Therefore, I call upon the highest power available
to me: the collective wisdom of Wizard Fans United. Someone
out there has to know. So write to "Magic Words" and let me know.
Give me a full explanation of what the winner actually got, and please
include some form of proof. The first one to send in the true answer
will receive... I dunno, but I'll send you something neat. And a
Clark bar.
