For Sizing Pictures
I recommend downloading a picture editor if you don't already have one, and using it to decrease picture sizes. This will increase page download times while reading posts. It will eliminate the need to scroll left and right to read posts, and use less bandwidth from Geoparent, meaning site will move a bit faster. Everyone has to help out with this. You can get a freeware one at

http://www.irfanview.com/

1.) Ok here is the way to do the resize using Irfanview freeware program.
2.) Go to File, and open.

3.) Locate the file on your computer by "Looking In" the drive(c drive for most people who have an image stored on their harddrive...if not you may have it on a drive that looks like a cd, if your getting it off of a cd) that the image is located and then find it in the file folder that its in, and then finally click on the image itself.

4.) Once the image is clicked on, it will place it in file name box.

5.) Then click on Open.
If you did this correctly, the image is now open in the viewer.

6.) Now we resize the huge picture.
Across the top it says File Edit Image etc.

7.) Click on Image.
And then go down and select Resize/resample image.

8.) Now you will see a new window.

9.)And in there you have 3 options.

9a.) The first is making sure the dot is in New size..and lower the numbers. I usually do only by 100's. Like if its 586. I choose 300. I usually only set the width, and let the height adjust itself accordingly.

9b.) The second choice is to change size by percentage. Same idea, but its going to size it by percentage.

9c.) The third choice is to go to the bottom and use those dimensions...which are all kind of large still.

10.) So what I do if I don't feel like playing with the numbers above is I will choose half of the original size button if the original size wasn't like a 800 pixels and up.

10a.) If you use this feature too many times it can sometimes distort the picture.

11.) So try editing the top first....and if you don't like the size, either choose another number in "New Size" or click "half" for the new size.
Check out clarity of picture but do not save it till your happy with it.
. Click file and exit, or the x and do not save it if its not what you wanted.

12.) If you save a picture before your completely happy with it, it will overwrite the good picture and will require rescanning it. If its the only picture off of a digital camera, and you don't have a backup it will be lost.

13.) If you don't quite trust yourself till you have played with it a few times...make duplicates of the picture, and save under another name...and work with the one. This way you still have an original picture if you mess up.

14.) If you are however satisfied with the dimensions of your new picture then go to file and "save as" where it says untitled...delete that...give the file a name you want...and choose save. You have now sized your picture.

15.) By clicking the exit under file or x in the right corner, you will have disposed of your work you weren't satisfied with.

16.) To get that picture back to work on it again, which if you got to a point where it distorted the picture because of too much resizing, then you start over like it was the first time you were doing this. Because you didn't save the distorted picture, the original is still good to work with. Try to do most of the resizing in one step. Not multiple steps for the best results.

17.) To make sure you did it right...when you go to post the post, make sure you select preview option before hitting continue. This way you can preview and see if the picture showed. And if not go and hit the back button on the browser, and try again. You can do this over and over till you get it. :) Then you can only post the results...the picture! :)
Good luck and if you need more help let me know!
