GM is stopping the production of the EV1 electric car citing low customer
interest. To keep up with environment concerns GM working with Toyota is
working on a hybrid version of the Echo renamed Prius.

Ford is working on a small electric vehicle. We mean small, it
resembles a golf cart. It's designed for short commutes within closed communities.

then why not a 598-ci SVE Boss Mustang!

It is the Camaros worst nightmare. Ford is rumored to produce it in the

GM is showing a special Camaro called ZL1 on the International Car
Shows. It cames including an 8.4 Litre engine (572 Ci) rated at 770 Hp.
Some of the upgrades are: Dart intake manifold modified for FI, K&N
filter, exhaust improved to true dual and 3.5 inch monster sized, lighter,
yet higher torque starter, upgraded crankshaft, suspension fore and aft
been revised to accept the higher weight and the massive 18 inch wheels.
OK Ford, bring on the V-10 from the trucks or V-12 from the Indigo. (some
of us will buy them!)

Now in development is a new braking system. Presently there's two -
the disks and drum brakes. This new one is actually a lot like a clutch
system. The disks are in contact in their whole area, applying pressure
evenly. Therefore is reduces wear, improves braking distances, better head
dissipation, less pounds. Car manufactures are testing the system. The
company that developed the system is in Quebec, Canada.

The Ford Focus is taking Ford into the small car performance. First
it was the ZX2 with great performance, now there's the ZX3. It aims at
the young custom car crowd, you know loud exhaust, lowered, fat tires and
of course tinted windows.

Harley-Davidson F-150. It is complete with a all back look custom 20' wheels
(First in a production Ford product), hard bed cover, chrome dual exhausts,

Ford is sending the P2000 to the Us government engineers to get tested.
Ford will be the first to mass produce a full size vehicle. It will have
a hybrid power plant running diesel and electricity. SEE 1998/12/10

The current Mustang power plants are going to be replaced by an all
new 4.6. There are Mustangs with a 3.9
as well as a 5.4 Cobra testing. Both these engines are supposed
to bring the Mustang to number one in performance, just like in the hey
day of the 5.0s.

this one will be produced by Maclaren on a limited production run, this
will be Maclaren latest big production after the M. F1.

Cadillac is re-learning about speed and
performance. The Catera sedan is the new focus of this performance exercise.
It will include new 16 inch spooked wheels, sport
suspension, new and improved styling with a spoiler, skirts. On the performance,
it will have a super charger, electronic throttle control, new torque converter.
If the Catera looks and performs like the Steinmetz Catera with it's supercharged,
inter cooled, dual overhead valves, large flow air filer, stainless steel
exhaust 3.0 V6 rated at 285 hp then I say bring the it on!

SVT is returning the R model Mustang for the
year 2000. It will be the best performer Mustang of all times.
Can it get any better than a Shelby 350, or 428
Shelby KR, what about a 69 429 Mach 1.
The only way to get your hands on a brand new
R is if you have a racing license.

In early 2000 Ferrari is bringing in the F60
to replace the F50 which has been out of production since '97. It will
be more powerful then the F50, with a 620 hp V12. It will have a
carbon fiber composite body based on the F50.

Cadillac is producing three race cars for the
2000 Le Mans race, the engine, power train combo is reportedly ready for
the car. Power will be in the form of their 4.0 liter Northstar V8 engine.
Cadillac last time at Le Mans was in 1950.

The new Ford Taurus is coming in the year 2000.
Even though based on the present platform it looks a lot different. Only
the side glass, doors and windshield remain the same. The rear part of
the roof is different increasing head room. The hood is raised up
at the back directing air flow to the windshield for a clearer view during
rain driving.
Better looks are accompanied by a lot of safety
features.
This was Fords priority for the new car. It will
bring features that are only now available in top luxury cars, examples
are dual stage air bags, crash severity sensors make the air bag open with
greater or lower speed depending on crash. Safety belts pretensioners,
different load limiting retractors make sure the person(s) is (are) well
placed in the seat.
All this safety features are taking the Taurus
ahead in the midsize segment.
Performance was improved in the two current engines
the 3.0 liter 153 hp - 182 pft and 3.0 liter - 24 valve now
200 hp - 200 pft .

The Dodge Charger is not a certainty yet. If produced it will have
a 4.7L V8 super charged engine.
Mercury is really taking advantage of the new location for it's new
headquarters- California it's sunny weather has been inspiring the company's
designers, engineers and management to prove it there are two new Mercury's
coming soon:
The Marauder will be a sleeper (a la Impala SS). It would include
a supercharged 4.6, big wheels, dual exhaust with three inch pipes. More
power to the people!
The Cougar would have an S model - (Sport) not only a badge but a full
on option package, including: a 220 Hp 3.0 Duratec V6, an all wheel drive
system (from the Modeo), 18 inch wheels, the design will include
aggressive front and back ends, fender flares and a scooped hood a la 99
Mustang

car. It will feature the clues from the past, but will be a forward designed

Ford will be selling a high-performance ZX2 S/R this spring. With a
2.0L DOHC 143 horsepower Zetec engine with suspension and wheel upgrades.

The Ford SVT Lightning strikes again in 1999 - It will be available
with a super charged 5.4 liter V8 producing 325 HP and 450 pounds of torque.
It's time slip to reach 60 mph will be 6.5 seconds, (going on 6 seconds
flat)

Ford will be producing an ultra low emissions and high mileage vehicle,
it 's called P2000. It looks al ot like an over grown Contour. It could
be make available with an electric engine. Even though it's a bigger car,
it's use of light materials make it light enough for 63 mpg on either methanol
or more traditional diesel.
Speaking of Contours / Mystique, it's over seas twin the Mondeo
will be going trough some changes in 2000. The sharp new edge theme will
be applied to the current design. It incorporates the same body style with
new fresh styling cues. It's not just a makeover as it's interior room
is also increased. It's rear looks like a cross between the new Cougar
and the current Mondeo (specially it's lights look al ot like the new Cougar).
The Plymouth Prowler (for '99) gains a couple of colors (red
& black), as well as 39 more HP (now 253) and 34 more lb-ft torque
(now 255 lb-ft). The exhaust was also changed for a more sporty tone (as
the law would allow it! ). Not 2 shabby !
Ford Motor Company is buying Volvo's car division. It cost Ford
$ 6.45 Billion Us. This price tag brings along side with it a brand located
above Fords current cars and below the Jaguars. Ford now owns Jaguar, Volvo,
Aston Martin & 1/3 of Mazda.
The Ford Taurus SHO will be truly missed after next year when the line
will be restyled. SHO's have been around for about 10 years. It developed
quite a following, people that liked it's modest look coupled with powerful
Yamaha engines. The latest version was a V8 producing 235 Hp. We will miss
you SHO !
Ford will be introducing the Mercury Cougar as a convertible by 2000
in North America. For the European market it will be the Focus Cabrio taking
headlines.
From Detroit : The word is retro, since the 94 Mustang set a trend
for new design with clues from the past, there was : The VW Beetle. Now
there's a major movement around retro styling. The Ford Thunderbird coming
in 2000 or 2001 - 2 seater awesome styling - great performance.
There are other car makers ready to cash in, examples just as concept
cars: The GTO from Pontiac - The Charger R/T from Dodge & The 240Z
from Nissan. Those cars are not a go yet, but the Prowler wasn't one either
Chevy is also reintroducing the Impala as a four door sedan with a
V6 engine rated at 180 hp, it will be similar to the two door ( new) Monte
Carlo. We look forward for the SS arrival (anyone from GM listening ?)
The Chevy Camaro and twin Pontiac Firebird have been rumored
that will be part of history soon. Due to the fact that even with more
power they haven't reached close to the Mustang sales, that's too bad !
The Ford Focus which was selected car of the year in Europe
should be available in North America in mid '99
Just in case if you didn't hear yet VW bought the British automotive
company Rolls Royce.
Chrysler has "merged" with Mercedes Benz effective November 12 1998.
Headquarters is now located in Germany.
In related news. Effective November 12 - 98 there is no more BIG
THREE, as Chrysler's home is not Detroit anymore. From now on there is
the BIG TWO - FORD & CHEVY !
