History Of The Poll & How To Vote
After voting for my Top 20 albums to contribute towards the next edition of Colin Larkin's excellent All Time Top 1000
Albums book, early in 2002, I told a few friends my choices and encouraged them to also cast their votes. I received a few
e-mails back from them with their choices which were really interesting and insightful. Just as I received my 7th
and 8th lists in April 2002, I also bought a new computer and had the sudden thought - wouldn't it be a good fun
idea to compile my own Top 20 Albums Poll
I e-mailed more friends and encouraged them to also contact their friends and colleagues to contribute towards my poll.
I closed my first poll at the beginning of June 2002 by which time I had received 31 Top 20 Albums Lists. The overall results
of this poll are available here.
As my first poll had been successful, I decided to re-launch the poll towards the end of 2002. I received 51 lists towards
my December 2002 poll, the overall results of which are available here.
The poll was relaunched towards the end of 2003. I received 62 lists towards my December 2003 poll, the overall results
of which are available here.
Once again I relaunchd the poll in the autumn of 2004. I received 77 lists, the overall results of which are available
here
I received 87 lists towards the 2005 poll. The overall results are available here.
I finally reached three figures with 100 lists received for the 2006 poll. The
overall results are available here.
There were a total of 106 lists for the 2007 poll, the overall results of which are available here. There were also 106 lists for the 2008 poll with the results available here. The 2009 poll brought about a total of 109 lists with the results available here.
The 2010 poll brought about a total of 113 lists with the results available here. For 2010, I have also compiled overall results for those
people who have voted over the last 5 years only. This has taken the number of
lists down to 49 with many of those lost including friends / colleagues of friends who I’ve lost contact with as they’ve
changed jobs / e-mail addresses. Going forwards, I’m planning to run my
annual poll based on those who have voted over the last 5 years only
The final 2011 poll brought about a total of 42 lists (people who have voted over the past 5 years only) including 3 new
voters. The results are avaiable here.
Due to me struggling to find time to put together the poll and the general declining interest in it, I have decided
that the 2011 poll will be the last one and the time is right to stop this labour of love. I will though continue to compile
my own Top 20 albums each year which I'm happy to share with anyone who is interested in seeing it.
My thanks
to everyone who has voted and especially to those of you who have voted virtually every year and passed the poll
on to others.
Kkeep enjoying the music.
