Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool ***¾ Excellent gallery collection covering all periods from classical religious to modern
art. Some excellent paintings with just a slight emphasis on artists from Liverpool and the North-West. The modern art choices
are notable in that nearly all of them are worthwhile rather than being pretentious rubbish. An excellent, comprehensive permanent
collection. Visited: 15.6.02
Warhol, Tate Modern. London ***¾ An indication of how long I've lived in London is that I went to the last major Andy Warhol
retrospective in about 1990. This new and highly popular extensive exhibition contains a few series of paintings I hadn't
seen before. Some strong iconic images and influential ideas which I'm usually more interested and impressed with than the
paintings themselves. A very good exhibition full of different punters than you usually get at art exhibitions due to Warhol's
hipness. Thought provoking and well worth visiting. Visited: 3.3.02 (with Claire)
