Beatles
Story, Liverpool *1/2 Quite a good introduction
to the Fab Four for people who don't know much about them. The Beatles Story
naturally focuses especially on the group’s formative years in Liverpool. However
it is seriously flawed. Why aren’t there any first hand reminisces from
people who knew the band in their early days – such stories will be lost forever in 20 years' time? This is nothing though compared to the biggest flaw – that the exhibition has barely been updated
since it opened in the early 90s. There is a plaque for George Harrison's death
and the promise of more to come on that front but for all we are told Paul McCartney may still be married to Linda. How this shoddiness won a tourism award in 2002 is beyond belief. Seen by me: 1.5.04 (with Naomi)
Brancusi,
Constantin : The Essence Of Things Tate Modern, London ***1/2 An exhibition of one of the 20th century’s most renowned sculptors
which gets better for me as we progress through it after an uncertain start. Several
attractive, symbolic pieces although there is also quite a lot here which I don't think much of at all. Still very much worth seeing. Seen by me: 2.04 (with Naomi and Anne)
