Marriages from the Moonbah Area
As there were not a lot of people in the area and the fact that they were so far from other areas of settlements, the choices were in fact limited. You could take a trip to Sydney, find a partner, woo them and marry them and return home, and if this could be accomplished in about a week all was well otherwise you had to find the love of your life in the surrounding area. Jim Mugridge was found dead down in The Gullies suspected a heart attack.
Childbirth killed a lot of women in those days, non-withstanding families of 10--14 were very common. Leo Barry caught Polio as a child and was crippled with the ailment. But he was able to marry and raise a family as well as running a station and working for the local council as a Member of Council for more than 30 years. Without his untiring work The Barry Way would never have been opened. He was also very involved in the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric works, the biggest engineering feat ever attempted in Australia at that time. Leo was awarded the O.B.E. for his work.

During the compiling of all this information, I came across many coincidences.
1: Rita died on 4th October 1980, 120 years to the day that Henry jumped ship in Sydney on 4th October 1860.
2: Des and Rita were both born on 26 May but 5 years apart.
3: Des and Rita were both born out of wedlock.
4: Rex and his Aunty, Mavis Woodhouse were both born on 28 May.
5: Des and Rita's Mother Mabel Blanche, both died on Christmas Day, years apart
