Example 1109BJ 110 - The first three numbers are the day of the year the car was produced, in this case 110 = April 19. 9 - The last number in the digits is the ending of the year, in this case 9 = 1999. If the four digit number ends with an 8, then the car was made in 1998. BJ - The factory in China where the car was manufactured. So far, the factories are only known as BJ, EA and ME. I have only found one model produced at ME, the Kenworth T-2000. All others seem to be manufactured at BJ or EA.
If you look closely at the batch numbers, you can see that Mattel was producing the 1998 Matchbox line way into 1999. After promising the 1-100's for 1999 that we all have been waiting on, Mattel still insisted on filling the shelves with 1998 models. A few of last years models are now being produced with small variations. With the batch numbering system, it is easier to pick these out, if nothing else. |
