A strong annual, usually up to 1 meter tall. The plant is slightly hairy. Common in abandoned land, under coconut trees, and belukars. The seed of this plant is used to obtain an edible oil called sesami seed oil, til (teel) seed oil, or ginjili oil, which is used for its flavouring in cooking, and for its medicinal value, and also as a hair oil, for softening and making hair glossy.
