This is a chinese medicinal herb. The bright red bulbs are collected and
boiled as a soup with bones (i.e. chicken bones). The boiled soup is red
in colour. This herb is said to be good for the treatment of traumatic and
internal injuries, over fatigue and strain. The Thai use this as a carminative, and also mixed with galanga, for cold and nasel congestion in children by applying externally to forehead.
