1 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tst. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Food Coloring (optional)
Buttercream frosting (recipe follows)

Frosting:
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
2 1/3 cups sifted powdered sugar
dash of salt
1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
food coloring (optional)

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light & fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, beat well. Combine flour, baking powder and salt to creamed mixture, mixing well. Using a cookie press, press dough onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. cool on wire racks. Decorate with buttercream frosting or color sprinkles or sprinkle with colored sugar before baking.
Buttercream Frosting
Cream butter; gradually add powdered sugar, beating well. Add salt, milk, and vanilla; mix well. color frosting with food coloring, if desired. Yield: about 1 cup.
