The Snake That Adopted Us

Here’s another story about a member of the Studebaker menagerie, aka "The Frazzled Zoo". This story is about a reptile we have all  grown to think of as a very special snake. Yes, you heard me right–a snake. I told you at the very beginning that we have had a very odd group of pets.

And he didn't eat too much. Just a few baby mice or a couple of baby rats once a month or so. This snake is not one of your normal pet store type snakes. He was a California gopher snake. Sneaky Snake II is what we called him. A friend of ours found him in their garage and asked if we wanted him. At the time he was about six  inches long.

If you'll remember from an earlier version of this web page, our first gopher snake, Sneaky Snake I, has "passed on". Sneaky I went on to the that great terrarium in the sky. I won't dwell on that unfortunate event but, instead, tell you a little more about Sneaky Snake II.

Sneaky Snake II, like many of the early stars of the Daisy Duck Home Pond, has grown up. He's now about 2 1/2 feet long but still doesn't eat too much. Baby mice don't fill him up when he's hungry like they used to so we've had to feed him 3-4 baby rats. Haven't gotten too many pictures of Sneaky Snake II, he is always moving around. There are a few though and these will be added in the near future..

In the mean time here's an interesting picture of Sneaky Snake II and Marie. It was taken as a snapshot from our new WebCam. Click on the thumbnail picture to the left to see a full-sized version (320 X 240 pixels). By the way, this picture was posed--Marie isn't really scared of Sneaky Snake II. He is really quite harmless you know.

Still working on this one! Come back later to see what we've done.
