ABOUT NETBALL
Netball is a fast skillful game that involves
a lot of running, jumping, throwing and
catching. Each team may have up to 12
players on the team, but only 7 are allowed
to be on the court at a time.

Each player has a specific position on the
team that determines the areas of the court
that they may move around. Those positions are:
- Goal Shooter (GS)
- Goal Attack (GA)
- Wing Attach (WA)
- Centre (C)
- Wing Defense (WD)
- Goal Defense (GD)
- Goal Keeper (GK)

The Goal Shooter and the Goal Keeper are allowed in this shaded area only.

The game lasts for 4 quarters that go for
15 minutes each. There is a 3 minute change
over period between the first and second

and a 5 minute half time interval.

AIM
The basic aim of the game is for each
team to move the ball into their scoring
zone where either the Goal Shooter or
Goal Attack can score goals from within
the goal semi-circle. Each goal is worth one
point and the team that has the most
number of points at the end of the game
is the winner.

RULES
Netball rules may be placed into two groups;
Minor rules and Major rules. Minor rules are
those that only break the rules of the game,

MINOR RULES
The minor rules are penalized with a free pass
to the other team. These are:

- Held Ball: when the player with the ball holds
onto the ball for longer than 3 seconds.

- Stepping: when the player with the ball puts
their landing foot back onto the ground.

- Breaking: when either the GD, GA, WD, WA
enter the centre third to receive a centre pass
before the umpire blows the whistle.

- Offside: when any player steps out or into an
area of the court that they are not allowed to
be in.

- Over a third: when a player throws the ball
over an entire third without it being touched
by anyone.

MAJOR RULES
The major rules are penalized with a penalty
pass or penalty shot. In this sort of penalty,
the the offender must stand out of play, which
means they stand right next to the player taking
the penalty pass, until the ball has left the
thrower's hand. The major rules are:

- Obstruction: when the offender gets in the way
of the player with the ball.

- Intimidation: when the offender scares, threatens
or putts the player with the ball off.

- Contact: when the offender touches the player
with the ball.
