E Third -- 4/30/01 7:23 PM
*E third, glad that he wasn't seen, lets out a silent sigh of relief. He quickly realizes that, without light, something could be lurking in the shadows. Suddenly, a rustling sound comes from somewhere in the darker part of the woods. E third realises that it could only be one thing, and panics.*
Grues...
Silverfeather -- 5/1/01 5:35 AM
Hearing a strange rustling sound, her eyes widen and her hand strays to the dagger at her side. She glances around the forest, unable to see much in the darkness.
Oh great...
E Third -- 5/1/01 5:32 PM
*E third, knowing the one thing that grues fear, starts chanting a spell. Just before finishing the spell E third closes his eyes, and then finishes the chant, at that moment, a brilliant flash of light that illuminates the immedate area around Silverfeather and E third. While the lights flashes, although briefly, a truly horrific, monsterous creature is shown, running away from the illuminated area. The light dims and E third opens his eyes, although only seeing darkness again.*
Silverfeather -- 5/2/01 7:59 PM
Caught off guard by the sudden flash of light, Silverfeather squeezes her eyes shut, the images of the forest temporarily burned into her retinas. After a few moments she opens her eyes once more and is greeted with a sheet of blackest night. Waiting for her eyes to readjust to the darkness, she turns in a circle, trying to spot anything that could explain the light.
E Third -- 5/2/01 8:35 PM
*E third, knowing that darkness in this forest is dangerous, thinks of a plan to protect himself and Silverfeather, and still not let Silverfeather know that she's being followed by him. E third pulls out a hood, and puts it on, after that, he picks up a stick and puts his weight on it. Looking somewhat like an old man now, he chants a short spell and watches as the stick he leans on start glowing. In his diguise, E third slowly approches Silverfeather and coughs to direct attention to himself.*
Silverfeather -- 5/4/01 6:21 PM
Hearing a cough, Silverfeather spins around, looking for the source. Her imagination getting the better of her, she brings her dagger out of its sheath and into a defensive position at the same time. She freezes, really to do battle. Upon seeing the old man, however, her body relaxes slightly and she mentally berates herself for her jumpiness. Resheathing the dagger, she takes a few steps toward the man.
Hello, sir. Are you a fellow traveler through this place or are you a denizen?
E Third -- 5/4/01 7:59 PM
*Continuing his act as an old man, E third wheezes loudly before answering, and makes his voice sound as feeble as possible.*
Well, I suppose that-
*Getting a little too much into his act, E third goes into a coughing fit in the middle of his speech, and hurts his throat in the process of his coughs.*
I suppose that you could call me a denizen of this forest, young lady...
*Acting like he can barely do so, E third lets out a weak chuckle.*
So tell me, what would somebody like you be doing in such a dangerous place, all alone?
Silverfeather -- 5/5/01 1:17 PM
Silverfeather, taking note of the old man's coughing, watches him closely and wonders about his health. He does look pretty ancient. At his question, she looks away before replying.
Well, I just wanted to visit the forest. I've never been here before. I do have a dagger with me for protection...But...why do you say the forest dangerous?
E Third -- 5/5/01 4:14 PM
*Wheezing out his words, E third speaks again.*
I've learned that this forest is dangerous through experience, and one my age does have quite a bit of it!
*Letting out a hack, he continues speaking.*
You know, it really is too dangerous for a young lady like yourself to be traveling alone through this forest. If I don't seem like I'll be too much of a burden, take this old man with you...
Mirai -- 5/5/01 4:25 PM
as Old Man E Third and Silverfeather walk through the forest, they hear flute music again. Some might recognize the une as the Minuet of the Forest. The boy who was playing at the battle now walks behind them, his crystaline dagger glowing, keeping away grues and other creatures.
Silverfeather -- 5/5/01 10:49 PM
After considering the request for a moment, Silverfeather nods.
I'd be delighted if you accompanied me. Do you have any specific destination in mind?
E Third -- 5/6/01 11:43 AM
*Half chuckling, half coughing, E third answers.*
Oh no, I have no particular destination, I was just wondering through when I ran into you. I would rather you decide our path in any case...
Silverfeather -- 5/8/01 5:30 PM
Alright. I suppose we can just keep walking eastward. I really have no idea how far I'm going, but it's a start.
Turning away for a moment, Silverfeather looks around. Finally spotting what she had been searching for, she takes a few steps off of the path and picks up a long, sturdy ash stave. Upon returning to the old man, she smiles.
Okay, I'm ready to go now. I'm glad this was handy, if the forest is indeed so dangerous...
She starts to walk, setting a pace to accomodate the old man.
E Third -- 5/8/01 6:22 PM
*Walking slowly by Silverfeather, and depending heavly on his staff to walk, E third smiles.*
Well, I'm glad that you've taken me with you. It's nice to see somebody that can make time for an old man, such as myself...
Silverfeather -- 5/8/01 7:21 PM
Grinning wryly, Silverfeather takes her eyes off of the path and casts a sideways glance at the old man.
Don't mention it. Where I come from, we take pride in our elders and afford them great respect.
Falling silent, she suddenly realizes something.
Were we ever introduced? I don't think we've even told each other our names! Mine is Silverfeather.
E Third -- 5/8/01 8:17 PM
My name is E third...
*E third gives a slight bow of his head.*
An honor to be introduced to you, Silverfeather.
turbo man -- 5/19/01 4:52 PM
A strang man wearing a black tunic and black pants with black boots, wearing a black cloak and hat sits in the trees watching what goes on silently.
T.Man:Ah, I love this place...so quiet...so scerene....such good fruit, except that green kind that slaps you when you try to take its apples...bastards slapped my hand....
He hops down and walks along a path coming to a clearing.
T.Man:This would be a fine place to rest.
He simply lays down on his back and falls asleep.
Dream Weaver -- 5/29/01 4:58 PM
A nether gate opens, the swirling vortex of the gate obscures the form of a creature that walks through it. The gate closes and it clears the vision of people who watches the strange creature. The creature seems tired and rasps...
Blade... where's Blade... Blade in The Night... I'm tired.
Silverfeather -- 6/21/01 6:23 PM
And it's an honor to meet you as well, E third. Shall we continue?
She gives a half-smile and resumes a slow pace, swinging her staff slightly.
So, what else can you tell me of this forest? It seems to have a long and...interesting...past.
E Third -- 6/29/01 7:49 PM
*E third chuckles, and resumes walking.*
This forest does have an interesting past indeed, also as you have guessed it is rather long. Although there are many ledgends and interesting things that I could tell you about, I know the most about the creatures called grues...
*E third takes a break from his walking to hack a bit, then resumes with walking.*
I can tell you about anything you wish, all you need to do is tell me what you want to hear...
Silverfeather -- 6/22/01 9:44 AM
Silverfeather contemplates E third's offer for a moment before speaking.
Well, I suppose I'd like to hear about these "grues". I must admit, I've never heard of them before. Are they exclusive to this forest?
E Third -- 6/22/01 10:57 AM
*E third lets out a huge wheezing cough, and starts speaking.*
Grues are creatures that many people wished existed only in nightmares. They are very deadly, and nobody with even a small part of a brain would try to kill a grue. Although there are a few people that have tried it, none of them succeeded. You notice how this forest seems so clean, despite the attack of the grues? That's because the grues attack only what they eat, and they will eat anything and everything. When some dunderhead decides to kill a grue and become some hero, the grue gets the better of them, and eats everything. Including the skeleton...
*E third hacks once again, then continues.*
Fortunately, I've only known them to stay in this forest because it's pretty much a grue heaven. It's perfectly suited for them, lots of food, lots of room, not to mention that it's dark. Darkness is a big part of grues, they fear light. I've seen what happens when a grue gets too much light, it's not very pretty...
*E third wheezes again.*
Silverfeather -- 6/22/01 6:48 PM
Silverfeather grimaces.
Ugh. They sound perfectly vicious. What keeps them from killing everything they can in the forest? Is there any way to protect from them other than carrying a torch or other light?
E Third -- 6/22/01 7:04 PM
*E third coughs.*
There isn't much of anything that's keeping them from killing everything here, except the fact that this forest is simply huge. Although there are some ways that keep grues away that don't involve light. Although, I still consider light the best way. I've heard of a mage or two that can use some sort of spell that will actually turn them into a grue. I wouldn't know where one would get such a spell, but I certainly wouldn't want to become a grue...
*E third wheezes.*
Although, there are mutated grues. Grues that have gone through a long and painful process of becoming immune to light...
Zergboy -- 6/22/01 7:12 PM
*A large shadow scurries behind the two adventures.*
*A large insect appears from the shadows.*
"Greetings, travelers! You may call me 'Z.' I am a wonderer and was traveling along when I heard voices. I wondered who could be in the forest and..well...here I am!"
ArrowE -- 6/22/01 8:19 PM
saria sits off in a patch of trees away from the path. The blue orb which she calls the "dragons eye" is hovering beside her, ilumiating the area with a soft, dim blue light. A faint image of her and the blue light is clearly visable from the area where SF and E are standing.
"Hmm...now that arrow is gone, i wonder what there is to do here. i could go to the cave, but its a few miles on the other side of the forest, and i dont think i can make it that far with out being eaten in one bite by a grue..."
She peers down at the small cabbit sleeping in her lap, then goes back to watching the happenings in the forest.
Silverfeather -- 6/23/01 5:14 PM
Silverfeather purses her lips at the E third's comments about the grues.
I'll just pray we don't run into any of them, then. Especially not the mutants...
At that moment, Silverfeather hears a scurrying noise. A little jumpy from listening to tales about grues, she whips around, staff ready to pummel any attacker into the ground. As she turns, she catches a glimpse of a faint light nearby and makes a mental note of it before focusing on the being that approached them from behind. After her movement is complete, she is relieved to see it's only a large insect that is talking. Still a little wary, Silverfeather relaxes and brings the staff down and raises an eyebrow.
A wanderer, are you? Well, if it's all right with my traveling companion, I suppose you could come along with us if you wanted to.
Zergboy -- 6/23/01 5:20 PM
"I thank you, m'lady!"
E Third -- 6/23/01 6:18 PM
*E third looks at the large insect with interest, although still keeps his face hidden under his hood.*
Hmm, I've never seen an insect so large. I would be glad if you would come along with us...
*E third also sees a pale blue light and a familar outline, as he talks to the insect.*
That outline seems familar. I can barly see anything under this hood...
ArrowE -- 6/23/01 6:37 PM
Saria scratches her little cabbit behind its ear as she watches E, silverfeather and the larg insect from her seat under a tree.
"should i approach them or just wait...what do you think, dyi-ohki?"
while waiting for an answer, she realises that she was thinking to herself, and the cabbit hadnt heard a word of it. Chuckling to herself, she leans back trying to catch a glimpse of the stary night though the thick brances.
Silverfeather -- 6/24/01 2:31 PM
Glancing at Z, Silverfeather gestures toward the forest with her staff and smiles.
Shall we continue, my friends?
With that, she once again resumes a leisurely pace, trusting that the others are coming.
ArrowE -- 6/24/01 3:03 PM
Saria sets the cabbit on the ground next to her and gets up from the ground. As she begins walking toward the three travelers, one very familiar to her, the glowing blue glass orb imeadiately floats after her. Once at the path, she pushes through the bushes so she is standing next to the large insect
E Third -- 6/24/01 3:23 PM
Ah, yes. I suppose that we should be moving again...
*E third suddenly notices that Saria is now following them as well.*
What is Saria doing here?!
ArrowE -- 6/24/01 6:25 PM
Saria eyes the man with the hood
Sorry for me to intrude like this, but you look very familiar...have we met before?
turning to the rest of the group
anyway, im saria...so where are you three headed?
E Third -- 6/24/01 6:29 PM
*E third wheezes, and tries to hide under his hood even more before he answers Saria.*
I'm pretty sure that we have not met before. You might be going through what some people call déja vu...
ArrowE -- 6/24/01 6:35 PM
are you sure?
saria moves closer to the man, trying to peek under his hood. Unable to see for the darkness, she beckons the dragons eye over next to her, as it lights up the area a little better.
E Third -- 6/24/01 6:40 PM
*E third pulls his hood over his head even more so it completly covers his face, and goes into a coughing fit that lasts for quite a while.*
ArrowE -- 6/24/01 6:42 PM
saria looks at the man with concern
are you ok?
E Third -- 6/24/01 6:43 PM
*E third continues to cough, but slips in a few words.*
I'll be all right.
ArrowE -- 6/24/01 6:48 PM
ok...if you say so...
saria points at her cabbit
well...this is Dyi-Ohki, and we were wondering where you three were headed...
E Third -- 6/25/01 11:32 AM
*E third stops coughing, and then looks at Dyi-Ohki.*
Oh, a cabbit. How adorable...
Zergboy -- 6/25/01 11:36 AM
"This is an odd animal..."
The cabbit hisses at Z.
"Brave, isn't he?"
Silverfeather -- 6/26/01 4:44 PM
Glancing at the newly-introduced cabbit and then back to her traveling companions, Silverfeather shrugs.
At the moment, we're just sort of walking through the forest. I myself am a newcomer to this forest, so I'm relying on my friend here to keep us out of trouble.
She gestures toward E third and suppresses a grin.
I'm Silverfeather, by the way.
Pausing for a moment, the young woman seems to contemplate something before speaking once more.
So now that your question has been answered, do you mind if I ask you where you are heading?
Zergboy -- 6/26/01 5:29 PM
"Greetings."
The insect does something of a bow.
"I am Z. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
ArrowE -- 6/26/01 7:24 PM
nice to meet you.
saria grins her usual overly-happy grin
well...i was just wandering around the forest when i saw you three. actually, i live here, but my cave is a few miles away, and i was afraid to try to travel through the middle of the forest. in case you didnt notice, im quite small and a grue could eat me in less than one bite...
Silverfeather -- 6/26/01 10:58 PM
Silverfeather nods and begins to speak softly, almost as if to herself.
Ah, so you're a resident of the forest as well? Quite a diverse population, I suppose.
She trails off and is silent for a moment before looking back at Saria and smiling broadly.
Well, if you'd like, you could travel with us until we're in a safer part of the forest or closer to your home. As they say, the more the merrier!
E Third -- 6/26/01 11:47 PM
*E third thinks to himself, and weakly chuckles.*
Ahh, this is great...
ArrowE -- 6/27/01 10:26 AM
saria thanks the travelers and waits for them to start back on their way
Zergboy -- 6/27/01 10:31 AM
"Shall we get going on our way?"
E Third -- 6/27/01 1:45 PM
*E third speaks again.*
Well, perhaps we should be going on our way again...
