New Zealand The Garbage Gang Series 1 | Garbage Pail Kids World

The Garbage Gang New Zealand Series 1 set was released in 1989 after the success of the Garbage Pail Kids in the U.S. and in the UK territories and a GPK test run in 1988. The set is a direct reproduction of the UK Series 1 set, therefore the series is almost identical except for The Garbage Gang moniker; job code of 4-490-0-9. The New Zealand 1st Series set is different from the Australia set by containing far less back variations, does not have a banner-style header and has thirteen name changes. The New Zealand 1st Series box has the 'TOPPS' logo on it instead of the 'REGINA' logo, which the Australian 1st Series box has. The remaining three releases, Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4 are identical for the New Zealand and Australia territories, except for some packaging differences. The United Kingdrom Garbage Pail Kids 6th Series set, made up of the OS6 and OS7 U.S. sets, was test ran in New Zealand and is believed to have been used in the initial release of both the Australia and New Zealand 1st Series where UK GPK Series 6 cards can be found in the NZ [The] Garbage Gang packs.

1. Cards 12a Furry Fran and 12b Hairy MARY have a red GPK Header compared to the U.S. and UK versions that have a pink header.

2. Cards 18a Cranky FRANKIE and 18b Bad BOB (note: Bad BRAD nomenclature for the U.S.) have a red GPK Header with a yellow border, exactly like the U.S., French and UK versions, but unlike the white border of the Australian version.

3. The original curved Header is implemented, the same for the UK Garbage Pail Kids and the U.S. OS1 through OS9 sets. You can distinguish 'THE GARBAGE GANG' title was placed within the old 'GARBAGE PAIL KIDS' header, a reproduction from the UK Series 1 set, where you can see the indentations where the capitol 'G', 'P' and 'K' would have been placed in the title.

4. There are 13 Name Changes compared to the U.S. cards which are the same as the 13 name changes of the UK 1st Series set. Since the New Zealand set is a direct repliation and reproduction of the 1st Series UK card set.
