There
are Two Puzzles within the set, much like the Australia
and New Zealand OS2 international releases the set contains both the 0S2 first
print run puzzle 'Messy TESSIE' and the second and third print run puzzle 'Live
MIKE'; together in one set for the first time in the U.S. The mock-up Value Box for OS1 Chrome stated '7 PACKS + 1 EXCLUSIVE BONUS PACK' but the release box was labeled "7 PACKS + 1 EXCLUSIVE X-FRACTOR PACK", well worth the purchase for the '4 BONUS X-FRACTOR CARDS' pack. However, the mock-up Value Box for the OS2 Chrome set stated "7 PACKS + 1 EXCLUSIVE X-FRACTOR PACK" but the release box was labeled "7 PACKS PLUS 1 BONUS PACK", only slightly worth the purchase for the additional four regular base cards. Instead of Lost Cards as released in the OS1 Chrome set, the OS2 Chrome set has Returning Cards found throughout, and reprinted from the Flashback sets. Due to the OS2 theme, and the few OS2 cards released within the Flashback sets, the MONA Loser and Phony LISA characters can be found a staggering number three times within the twenty-six card subset; on cards R7a/b, R10a/b and on cards R13a and R14b (mis-numbered). Technically, cards R10 predominantly displays an OS1 character. Although the OS2 Chrome Set is a replica of the OS2 1985 set release, it is not identical. The base set contains 84 cards rather than 86; the two variation cards do not appear in this set. There are several sets of checklist cards; four in total. The GPK headers are also banner-style rather than the older curved-style. The set, as mentioned above, contains two puzzles rather than one, encompassing the two different puzzles from all previous OS2 print runs. The card back layout is completely different due to both puzzles, both puzzle preview backs, and publishing three previousy unreleased card backs and images see 'GPK History' section below. The infamous OS2 character for card 49b showcases the third print run name FRAN FRAN, the first character name change in the history of GPK; the first and second print run name 'Schizo FRAN', unfortunately, cannot be found within this release. This same phenomenon also occured within the Flashback release as well. The sketch chase card subset isn't technically a complete Pencil Art set; cards 46a Rappin' RON and 46b RAY Gun are the color rough renditions rather than the pencil drawing by John Pound. The original pencil artwork had the character holding two guns in his hands, the concept was later altered, and the hand weapons were later removed from the art process. This is the only tight pencil artwork card that has color rough printed on it. The rare cards for the Chrome OS2 set, the twenty infamous C-Name Cards, which first appeared in the BNS2 GPK set were produced as 'short prints'often found in sport card releases by Topps and other entertainment products. These inserts are, in general, unannounced and have no pack odds, do not have a published quantity and meant as a surprise for collectors to find; this release the odds are 1:100 packsactually announced on the wrapper for this release. Unlike the BNS2 and BNS3 GPK sets where the B-name were the new nomenclature and where the C-name cards were the old B-name cards, and, like the OS1 Chrome set, the C-name cards for OS2 Chrome have the new nomenclature; the names are different than the ones picked for the aforementioned releases if duplicated. Although the BEER Product label was removed and censored from cards 7a Disgustin' JUSTIN and 7b Vile KYLE for the Flashback 3 set, the BEER can is faithfully restored and remastered for this release on cards 47a and 47b, the backside of cards R1a and R1bwhich predominately displays an OS1 central character, and for Sketch cards 47a and 47b. Due to the Sketch and Returning character cards bumped up against the regular release, there are several Same Names repeated, as much as three times for this release. Card 57a TOMMY Gun has the Font Reversed; the name 'Tommy' is in small print and the word 'gun' is in large print. Another sports card first for GPK, Chrome Technology; the second GPK release containing no stickers on cards and therefor, no die-cuts. |
The OS2 Chrome Online Banners
as seen up-to and through the GPK set release; the Topps Online banner from their
official website and the GPK Facebook page banner from the official Topps Facebook
page. Although the OS2 Chrome set contains the Returning Cards, re-imagined GPK from BNS2 and BNS3 card sets, the previously Unpublished OS2 cards can be located within the OS1 Chrome card subset called Lost Cards; also located within various Flashback GPK sets. The OS2 GPK page also has information on the images. There are three previously unreleased OS2 Reverse Card Backs printed for the first time within the OS2 Chrome set, located on the card backs of cards 77a and 77bLicense to Drive Your Parents Crazy, cards 78a and 78bLicense to Pick Nose in Public and cards 79a and 79bPractical Joke Permit. More information can be located within the OS2 'GPK History' page section; the backs were created by artist Tom Bunk and can finally be found on a card back. The test cards were printed by Topps and sold through the Topps Vault via eBay years ago; but due to the poorly scanned images, not all of the written word can/could be made out so the cards are fused with old and new material. During the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) in July of 2014, as the OS2 Chrome set was released, the Topps booth handed out a 2014 Series 2 Promo Card to collectors, GPK fans and potentially to newbies. Topps also had Comic-Con Series 1 'A' Edition Jumbo Cards available (limited to 500 sets?) and the following week Topps released the 'B' Edition Jumbo Comic-Con Series 1 Cards as an online exclusive through their Topps online shop (limited to 500 sets); more information can be found on the 'Cons & Fests' page within the GPK~Land section and the 2014S2 page of the site. The images used for the OS2 Chrome Pencil Art card subset were taken directly from John Pound's tight pencil artwork photocopies, created after the initial concepts were approved. These drawings are often called tight pencils and used by Pound to create the color roughs and then the final art that follows. The square box measured out is basically the available space for the card character image to fit below the GPK header and above the nameplate. One GPK Veteran is back for the Chrome 2 set, artist John Pound. Although Bunk completed the artwork backs for the OS2 set, no front artwork for him to sign for this release. |
