RELEASE PERIOD : SEPTEMBER 2020

The Horrorible Kids Series 5 set was released during the autumn of 2020, on September 7th; initial pre-orders ran from June 1st—June 30th. The entire set was created by artist Mark Pingitore who sketched and painted all 45 characters to create a ninety, twin-card parody release poking fun at the horror film genre. The creative title is a play on both of the words 'horror' and 'horrible'. The first print run box variants, containing one asterisk on card
* © 2020 MARK PINGITORE - MAGIC MARKER ART, LLCwas posted to the Magic Marker Art website for $80, for the regular edition with a foil prism card per pack + a plate per box, and $125, for the über edition with two foil cards per pack + a plate and sketch card per box. The 'PEEL HERE' stickers and display box have an ingenious tombstone-esque die cut which is a nice reminder of early GPK releases with special die-cut stickers. Unlike earlier MMA releases, miscellaneous product was released much earlier, during the summer, including two different binders on July 14th, two different enamel pins on August 18th, and even a jigsaw puzzle in March. Various other items were available after the main release, including backside printing plates, uncut foil sheet sets ($15ea), random sketch card overstock ($50ea), and nine different skateboard decks ($60ea).

FYI, the FBI defines the term 'mass murder' as murdering four or more people during a massacre
with no "cooling-off period" between the multitude of murders.

The severely rotted corpse, waterlogged and almost weightless, is surrounded by uplifting flaking flesh and fouled fish. The character is sporting some well worn, red-striped CPK shoes.
~ The iconic killer character, sometimes lake-goer and non-landlubber, is found on all of the standard packaging for the release (box, wrapper, poster, vinyl sticker), as a 9-piece puzzle within the set, and elsewhere as an enamel pin, skateboard deck, promo card, and a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle.

~ As depicted in the movie, the prankster and jokester can be seen dressed to the nines in his clown-like and colourful attire. The now iconic 'tears of a clown' image of the comedian's running makeup and deranged smile framed by his bright green hair is now complete with orange-striped CPK shoes, and accompanied by a burning fag/cigarette and a non-squirt gun firearm.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The ghostly character can be seen as described by Wiki as: "an elderly male ghost in a cloak and top hat, leaning on a cane with a wavering hand and clutching a hatbox in the other (DoomBuggies)." The attraction illusion was for its head to vanish and reappear within the hatbox, which didn't quite work in 1969. NOTE: sporting light blue-stripted CPK shoes.
~ The spooky specter character can be found within the set as a 9-piece puzzle and elsewhere printed on a skateboard deck.

def'n: Shop — A small store selling a specific or specialized item or product.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The carnivorous, man-eating plant is seen securely gripping the victim's head between its sharp chompers. In the musical and movie, Seymour, a nerd florist who loves strange and interesting plants, works in a small flower shop with his colleague, Audrey, with whom he has a crush on. What's barely seen of the character is just the top portion of his body, all scrunched into the mouth cavity of the bloodthirsty, Venus flytrap-like plant. Blood is like Miracle-Gro for the plant, which has been lovingly christened "Audrey II" by its owner.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The bizarrely stylish thug can be seen wearing a mask on his mug, a black derby hat, a white dress shirt (with the infamous eyeball cufflinks), white dress pants, a white supporter (innerwear as outerwear), black boots, and a straight walking cane. The movie is labeled as a dystopian crime film, but definitely has some horrorific moments throughout. "As queer as a clockwork orange" is British slang implying extreme strangeness and/or madness.
~ The antisocial delinquent, ableit, charismatic character, can also be found printed on a skateboard deck for the release.

~ The stuff nightmares are made of... Frederick Charles Krueger (aka The Springwood Slasher), the dream demon and mass murderer can be seen with his burned, disfigured face, his iconic dirty red-and-green-striped sweater, a fedora hat, and his trademark metal-clawed, brown leather glove. However, for New Nightmare, his fedora hat is green, matching a turtleneck version of his trademark sweater, and he's sporting tight leather pants, knee-high boots, a black trenchcoat, and a fifth claw on his glove that exposes more organic material with fewer burns.
~ The meta-cinema slasher film character can be found within the set as a 9-piece puzzle.

~ REDRUM ~

97a I NOAH WHAT YOU DID

def'n: Gore — Blood that has been spilt/shed, esp. as a result of violence; gorefest.
def'n: Tone — A general character and/or feel of a place, movie, etc.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The Fisherman character can be seen peeking out of his seaman's rainjacket and hood/hat, sporting a pair of pink rainboots, and clutching his trusty meat hook; his killer weapon of choice. I particularly like how the strap and snaps of the raincoat gives the character a frowny-yet-stern, curmudgeony and irritated look around the mouth area of the painting.

~ He Who Shall Not Be Named—as to prevent any movie spoilers—is the main antagonist in the "I Know What Youd Did Last Summer" trilogy.

~ REDRUM ~

98a AGILE ANNIE

def'n: Hobble — To walk in an awkward way, typically due to pain from an injury or wound.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The psychological thriller, based off of a Stephen King's novel, centers around a ever-so-slightly, over-obsessive fan who holds an author captive and forces him to write another story. As in the movie, the antagonist is seen wielding a sledgehammer that's used on the protagonist to prevent him from escaping. [SPOILER] The painting somewhat depicts the infamous 'hobbling' scene within the film, where the character places a board between the restrained legs of the author and uses the sledgehammer to break both of his ankles to prevent him from leaving. The character is sporting red-striped CPK shoes to match the pooling blood.

~ REDRUM ~

def'n: Cult — A veneration and devotion directed towards a particular entity or object.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The singular critter-like, furry alien can be seen in a stoic stance that pays homage to the original theatrical release poster for the movie, sans field and farm backdrop with descending asteroids in the night sky. The tribute character has eerie red eyes, a bloodthirsty look and grin, with yellow sharp teeth.

~ The 'cult' description is based around the small group of aliens having practices regarded by others as being strange or sinister.

~ REDRUM ~

100a SCARY TORY
~ Nomenclature = Scary story.
~ Horror film character: Pipe clown.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:
~ The pipe clown image pays wonderful tribute to one of the so-called 'disturbing illustrations' found on the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" first book cover, painted by artist Stephen Gammel, from the Alvin Schwartz book series. The other two titles are 'More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" and "Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones". A few of the stories were adapted to film by Guillermo del Toro and company
~ The pipeweed smoking, clowning around character can also be found printed on a skateboard deck for the release.

~ Horror film character: Esther; a 9-year-old Russian orphan girl.
def'n: Evil — Something or someone that is profoundly immoral and wicked.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The theatrical release poster stated "There's Something Wrong With Esther". The character can be seen with her severely parted hair and pigtails with black ribbons, but she is dressed in a parody of the "Little Orphan Annie" comic strip character, made popular with the 1982 movie "Annie", wearing her red dress and holding her decapitated head with its signature locks of orange hair. Both characters having been adopted from an orphanage, a residential institution for the well being and education of children without biological parents. The character is also seen gripping a butcher's knife coated with blood.

~ REDRUM ~

~ Horror film parody: Pet Sematary (1989).
def'n: Bedridden — To be confined to a bed by being sick and feeble, or from old age.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ The horrorific flashback character can be seen standing upright with her trademark collared night dress and food drippings. The character suffered and eventually died from spinal meningitis, which trumatized her sister, Rachel. The dying girl was played by actor Andrew Hubatsek because the filmmakers could not find any female gaunt enough to portray the character. The nomenclature pays tribute to "The Legend of Zelda" video game, whose Princess Zelda character is the complete opposite of the horror character. The Stephen King book was released in 1983 and a remake of the movie was released in 2019.

~ REDRUM ~

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:
~ The exquisite Guillermo del Toro character, simply named Faun, can be seen as an ancient half human-half goat relic creature with horns, orange hair, and skin with symbolic engravings; sporting his over-the-shoulder brown pouch and a white diaper. The leather pouch holds such trinkets as mandrake root, a dagger, and captured fairies. Actor Doug Jones played both the Faun and the Pale Man characters for the movie; the Faun's voice was dubbed by Pablo Adán, who also narrated the movie. Del Toro altered the creature, usually fraught with beauty in stories, to be goat-faced and made up almost entirely of earth, moss, vines, and tree bark.

def'n: Dead — To be no longer alive.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ A minor character featured in the Day of the Dead movie, Dr. Tongue (nicknamed by designer Tom Savini) is the first zombified undead to appear in the franchise. At some point during the breakout plague, he died and was reanimated into a zombie. The painting depicts the majority of his lower face, especially his missing jaw, as mutilated... quite possibly from a gunshot wound, rendering the character still functioning but (humorously) unable to consume anyone that he might kill. The victim-made-stalker is sporting red-striped CPK shoes.

def'n: Violent — The usage of physical force with intentions to hurt, damage, or kill.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:
~ Although there is a serial killer horror movie titled "Silent but Deadly" (2011), this serial killer is holiday-themed, is dressed as Santa, and carrying a bloody axe. The theatrical release poster only showed a santa suit arm and axe sticking out of a snowy chimney, apparently going down since the murder weapon is still clean; the poster stated "You've made it through Halloween, now try and survive Christmas." and "He knows when you've been naughty." The MMA image shows the upper half of Santa with his beard pulled down with a bloody axe.

~ The Sanderson sisters are stitched together, left-to-right, Mary Sanderson played by Kathy Najimy, Winifred "Winnie" Sanderson played by Bette Midler, and Sarah Sanderson played by "Sarah Jessica Parker. The three are standing singularly, with two remaining limbs, stirring a soul-sucking-potion within a very, large red cauldron. ~ The main protagonist is seen pulling a strand of booger material from his nasal cavity (or nose). Part of 'boogedy' contains the word 'boo', which is often associated with ghosts that haunt and cry "Boo!" to surprise or scare children. 'Booger' is another term for 'bogeyman', an alleged imaginary evil spirt/being used to frighten children. The ghost, with his flashing green magical cloak, from the colonial period may not be a strict Puritan, but he's definitely digging for pure gold in the form of a green booger.

One theatrical movie release poster version had a close-up of Toshio's face with a red number "2" as his eye pupil. The ball of yawn (aka cat toy) brings in a nice red element into the image.

The theatrical movie posters ran with the taglines: "Keep telling yourself it's just a game." and "When you talk to the other side, you never know who will be listening." The ouija board, aka a spirit board or talking board, uses a wooden (or plastic) planchette to spell out messages during a spiritual séance or a slumber party. The main antagonist can be seen sporting his black leather jacket, dark shades, cascading wavy hair, and black charcoaled skin. The character is sporting a set of violet-striped CPK shoes that goes perfect with the moonbow-like sunset sky and background. Pingitore has painted him with his trademark black ensemble of a trenchcoat, fedora, and gloves. He's also carrying his pocketwatch but is missing his rimless yellow-tinted glasses and swordstick (aka walking stick). In toon form, the Judge's eyes become evil red, he has a squeaky voice, and his body can become an arsenal of tools and weapons, including a buzzsaw (and anvil) that's tearing up the "Horrorible Kids" header. These reanimated, undead monsters (aka Kandarian spirits) gain their superhuman strength and powers from the ancient tome of Naturom Demonto. def'n: Naughty — (usually of children) To be disobedient and badly behaved. Rude; indecent.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ For the parody painting, Pingitore has craftily crafted (skillfully made) a cross between the movie The Craft and the subtle art of paper crafts; in this particular case, for kids. "Paper craft" is a collection of different crafts using paper or card as the primary medium for the creation of dimensional objects for display, decoration, et cetera. So Kids, it's not "Hammer time", it's "Craft time" instead. Pingitore has included the trademark (self-harming) knife, spiked dog collar, and adorned rosaries as seen in the film. Nancy Downs is the main antagonist and cantakerous witch of the movie that causes chaos and cruelty for others around her and even to her own coven. In an iconic scene within the movie, a newly undead Jack appears to David as a warning, with his mauled face and neck barely intact, to explain the dire situation. Pingitore has captured his black (dark grey) trench coat, wide-brimmed hat, gothic style, gaunt face, long white hair, his blade hand, and his hook hand. The character is named after the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), author of the Divine Comedy. The alias surname, Redgrave, is topographic nomenclature, given to a person or family who reside near a physical location; in this case, the place-name is derived from the Old English terms reed (red) and graf (grave) meaning ditch or grove.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:
~ Pingitore's non-portrait painting of the main protagonist, with a straight-faced pose taken from the theatrical release poster, adds an 80's Walkman and earphones to physically portray the character having a DJ profession. The Lords (are coming) forehead symbol has been changed to a black spider. Although her recovering addiction from drugs is not as noticeable, you can gather she my have crossed paths with an ancient coven of witches and listened to an evil album (possibly backwards). def'n: Spud — informal. A potato. "Ugly little spud!" movie quote.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ Pingitore's full-body portait 'caputures' the hungry ghost in all of his pure Ectoplasm glory and proportions. The character's toothy, tongue-lolling smile is similar to an obediant, tongue-wagging and dripping dog. Although Slimer was not named until The Real Ghostbusters (as a mascot), he was often referred to as "The Onionhead Ghost"; an incredibly foul-smelling amorphous vapor with the shape of a green potato (hence, Little Spud). The character was also referred to as "The Ghost of John Belushi", "The Green Ghost" during the early toy line, and the term "slimers" was used to identify a particular kind of ghost in the script.

'John Doe' is obsessed with the seven cardinal sins; he targets, captures, and tortures his victims by representing their alleged sin: gluttony, greed, sloth, lust, and pride. To drive his point across, of society tolerating these sins, he sets up a scene where he represents 'envy' and the detective, David Mills (played by actor Brad Pitt) is 'wrath'. ~ Horror slasher film character: Vincent Sinclair played by actor Brian Van Holt.

THE TERROR-IBLE TRUTH:

~ Pingitore's paraffin covered, full-body portrait is a nice tribute to the OS1 GPK character for cards 28a Oozy SUZY and 28b Meltin' MELISSA painted by artist John Pound. The character is a 'human' candle Kid, lit, and melting away. The movie is a remake of the 1933 film Mystery of the Wax Museum and the 1953 film House of Wax.
