Gary from Hong Kong

I stayed in Canada for four years and two years in San Francisco, I experienced different kinds of celebration of New Year, and I think its very precious.

When I was very young, my parents used to bring me back to China to celebrate New Year because most of my relatives were in China. Usually we had very big dinner in New Year eve. New Year is very big in China, on New Year day, we can hear the noise of people, firecrackers, lion dance and dragon dance.

In Hong Kong, we celebrate pretty much same as in China. We also eat new year's eve dinner with relatives in Hong Kong. And on new year day we will go to temple and wish for good luck.

I had the most quiet New Year in the four years in Canada. I did not have any celebration at all. Chinese in Canada somehow don't really care about New Year as much as Chinese in China.

Most of my relatives have now moved to San Francisco. We had a great reunion dinner on the last new year eve. The adult gave out red pocket to us and we greeted each other happily.
