Are you stuck in a rut?

Here is my New Year's wish for you: "Get yourself out of it!"

If your present job neither excites nor interests you, does not demand the best that you are capable of giving, and you dread rather than look forward to getting to work, then you are just existing rather than living. You are stuck in a rut and you are working just to earn money rather than for real job satisfaction.

The New Year is the time to take drastic change of directions, the time to consider taking yourself out of any rut. However comfortable the rut might seem to be because it is familiar and undemanding, you actually pay a high price for staying in it as you start to believe that that is all you deserve and that life has nothing better to offer.

The truth is we can do anything we want - it's our own doubts and lack of confidence that hold us back. Everyone deserves a job that is challenging, interesting and rewarding and once you decide to pull yourself out of a rut you will find that it is not as hard as you imagined it to be. The only requirement is that you want to change and are willing to put in some effort to achieve it. These are some of the steps you will need to take:-

  • Decide what job you really want and believe that you can get it.
  • Create goals for yourself. If you need to retrain, find out what this involves e.g. you can train part-time or attend evening classes, the costs, where to do the training: Open University, the Internet, Adult Education, Library or University/College etc.
  • Set time limits for achieving each of your goals.
  • Take action by doing something towards your goal everyday. With every step you take you gain more confidence and move nearer to your goal.
  • Arm yourself with courage and determination which are the recipes for success.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
