Soap Star Donates to Needy

Mothers

By Jennifer Edwards
Odessa American

"All My Children" star and mother of four Hunter Tylo added a few new kids to her flock Wednesday and managed to help an area nonprofit at a Junior League of Odessa Luncheon.
Tylo made two $2,500 donations during the luncheon, held at Odessa Country Club. One of those checks went to the league; the other went to the league’s nascent Hope’s Chest fund during the luncheon.

"Hope’s Chest dovetails with
Hunter’s charity, Chosen Child," said Lisa Wyman, community vice president for the league. "It’s a brand-new project for the Junior League. We will have a storefront with items for babies with bottles, cribs and that type of thing.
"We set up an incentive for young mothers and mothers at risk, where they earn points by going to the doctor, breastfeeding, Lamaze — anything that will help them ensure a healthy baby," Wyman said.

Doing so helps both the mothers and the community, she said.
"A premature baby can cost a million or more before it ever leaves the hospital, and the bills go on after that," she said. "Most of the time, taxpayers and government agencies are responsible for taking care of that debt."

Tylo, who also visited Medical Center Hospital Wednesday afternoon, said she was giving the money to the Junior League because of the great need she discovered in Odessa.
"There’s a huge need in the South and in this city," Tylo said. "Pregnant teens are often directed to abortion clinics and we’re finding most want to keep their babies. Sometimes they can’t go back to school or get a job without someone to care for their baby, and they end up going on welfare."

Tylo said that her charity, which is also new, seeks out that type of need and then "we give them groceries, help with prenatal care and give scholarships for day care."
Kathy Martin, president of the league, said the gift was wonderful — but unexpected.
"We’re thrilled," she said. "It’s very unusual for us to be on the receiving end of (a gift). We’re usually on the giving end. It’s quite a nice surprise."
Cathi Kinzer, an employee of Midland Community Healthcare Services who attended the luncheon, said she was glad to see the league get the donations.
"It’s important to get the project off the ground, so they’re not struggling in the beginning," she said.

New reality TV show promotes virtues of traditional marriage
Aug 25, 2004
By Shannon Baker

WASHINGTON (BP)--When Jennifer Fuqua and Jeff Higgins said, "I do," they did so in the presence of their family and friends -- and with the help of a camera crew -- before a projected two million families who are expected to watch a new counter-cultural, celebrity-laden reality show called "An American Wedding."

Targeting networks such as FamilyNet, The Travel Channel, The Total Living Network, Good Life TV and PBS, the program celebrates the beauty and romance of a wedding while presenting the truth in a marriage based on a covenant.

"The popularity of reality and lifestyle programming present us with a unique opportunity to present marriage as an adventure and as a positive way of life. It's about strong community, commitment and bringing the family back," explain executive producers Barbara Lindorme and Maureen Tokeson. "With value based programming, we have the rare opportunity to become a conduit for inspiring our culture."

Hosted by internationally renowned soap opera actress Hunter Tylo, who has been chosen twice by People magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world, "The D.C. Event" was filmed Aug. 14 at  Evermay, a privately-owned Federal-style home in the heart of Georgetown. In lieu of the usual rehearsal dinner, a pre-wedding barbeque for friends and family was filmed at Hunter's Oak, a premiere 1,000-acre links golf course community on Maryland's eastern shore in Queenstown.

Footage for the first show of a series -- scheduled also to include events in San Francisco and Chicago -- included a Marriage Boot Camp led by Smalley Marriage Institute therapist Christine Arnzen, who shared principles of teamwork, honor and romance in an experiential counseling session on the golf course.

Defining the true essence of romance as "a growing fascination and interest in each other," Arnzen said that when a couple begins to believe they know everything about their spouse, their curiosity naturally begins to fade along with the romance.

Hunter Speaks at a Savannah, Ga Engagement

Day of Remembering Mothers
Savannah Morning News

Hospice Savannah hosts third annual 'We Remember Mama' luncheon

Mothers' Day can be the pits for those whose mothers have died.
That's why one local nonprofit organization specializing in end-of-life care steps in to continue offering families comfort.

Hospice Savannah's third annual fund-raiser, "We Remember Mama," generated a sizeable crowd Monday.

(A smiling Hunter at Georgia speaking event)

Over 350 people attended the luncheon at the Westin Harbor Resort, where national soap opera star Hunter Tylo gave the keynote address.

Anna Deloach attended in memory of her grandmother, Marie Tindall, who died May 17, 2003. Seeing one of her favorite soap stars was a bonus.

"This woman, I'm telling you," said Deloach, a loyal fan of Tylo, who plays Taylor in the Bold and the Beautiful.

"
It was a date, every day at 1:30 p.m.," she said to Tylo. "And the fact that you're a Christian and a Republican doesn't hurt either."

Tylo's fans posed for photos with the Los Angeles actress.

Tylo is a national advocate for children's cancer research and a spokesperson for single motherhood and teenage pregnancy.

Some were brought to tears while sharing their stories of illness and loss with Tylo.

Other guests attended simply as a way of thanking Hospice Savannah for its support of local families during their most trying days.

Hospice supporter Sue Miller spent Mother's Day with her two sons. But Monday was a day to remember her own mother, as well as her sister and father – all of whom died within two years of each other. Miller quickly shed tears as she remembered losing those loved ones four years ago.

"My mother left me a lot of good memories," she said. "Most, on other days, are very happy ones," Miller said.

But today, she discovered, would not turn out to be one of those better days. Despite the pain, Hospice Savannah made a difference in working through the loss.

"(Hospice) enabled my mother and my father to die at home," she said. "I will always be a supporter of Hospice. They helped prepare us so well for death."

Hunter Talks About Recent Filming Experience in Bulgaria for New Sci-Fi Film

"Hammerhead"

"When I read Hammerhead, I was immediately excited about it. It has a cross between Tomb Raider and Predator feeling to it. William Forsythe , Lydie Denier and Jeffry Combs are the most fun and amazing actors. It was the biggest pleasure working with those guys. It was an extremely stressful shoot though with some factors emanating from the extreme cold and the fact that we were supposed to be looking like we were HOT in the jungle and water scenes - not to mention the other difficulties that sometimes arise in our business on the set - I'll leave that to your imagination, but in no way does it concern the above mentioned actors.
It was WONDERFUL working for Nu Image. Our producers were amazing and took the greatest care of us all. Bulgaria is a nice country, just extremely underdeveloped in the outskirts and hopefully joining the European community will bring much needed cash into the country.
The Black Sea is beautiful. I got in the best shape running those pure cream colored beaches free of any trash or overdevelopment.
Hopefully, I'll get some time to get my film developed, as well as some video from my memory stick onto the site. Missed you guys and America SO much. America IS the land of the FREE, Home of the brave - Never forget it! Love, Hunter"
