TRANSPORTATION

The method of transport differs with the energy of the river and with the size of the load.

Traction

(When the load is constantly in contact with the bed and rolls along)

• Occurs when the load is very large, requires large amount of energy to transport such large load, mainly in storms.

Saltation

(When the load bounces along the bed)

• Small boulders/large pebbles are transported in this way.

Suspension

(When the load floats along, not touching the bed)

• Small particles can float in this way.

Solution

(When the load is dissolved in the river water, this load is invisible)

• Extremely small soluble particles can be transported, with virtually any amount of energy.
• This form of transportation occurs continually.
