Oatmeal/oats are excellent for softening and gently cleansing the skin. Fill a small muslin bag with raw oats for a silky smooth bath. Also add whatever flowers, herbs or oils that you prefer.
You'll need pure or castile soap, which you can buy at a good pharmacy or herb farm. It contains no additives or scent.
Also:
8 fl. oz. water
2 tsps. witch hazel
5 Tbsp. pure soap
2 Tbsp. glycerine
1 Tbsp. powdered gelatine
1 Tbsp. each of sweet woodruff, mint of your choice, comfrey & angelica.
5 drops Lemon Verbena oil
1 drop Lavender oil
Measure out ingredients. Boil water. Make an infusion of the herbs and boiling water. (cover and let sit about 10 minutes) Grate soap. Strain herbal infusion and discard herbs properly. Add soap, stirring well. Seperately, combine glycerine, witch hazel, then the oil. Add this to herbal solution. Mix thoroughly. Add gelatine and mix until dissolved. Let cool. Put into containers.
Tantos Fragancias Bath Oil ~
2 fl. oz. tincture of benzoin
4 fl.oz. almond, apricot or avocado oil
10 drops sandalwood oil
10 drops orange oil
10 drops basil oil
10 drops rosemary oil
10 drops cinnamon oil
Combine all ingredients & shake thoroughly. Use 1 Tbsp per bath. Pat skin dry with towel, do not rub.
2 cups dried Lemon Verbena
1 cup dried Thyme
1/2 cup dried Peppermint
Mix together in a bowl. Spoon into a muslin bag and tie at top. Hang from spout as water runs over it or plop it right in the tub.
Love Citrus Bath Sachet ~
3 cups scented red Rose Petals
1 cup dried Thyme
dried Orange Peel from 2 oranges
Mix together in a bowl. Try to crunch up the thyme and orange peels. Spoon into a muslin bag.
To Do With Love~
Mix the following in a bowl and then fill a small muslin bag with the following mixture:
1 cup uncooked oats
A handful each: highly scented rose petals & jasmine flowers
(If using fresh flowers, double the amount.)
A small number of mint leaves & comfrey root.
Let steep in tub atleast 5 minutes.
Another as above~
A handful each: Rosemary & Carnation petals.
Half a handful Lavender
A little bit of Fennel & Thyme
Mix with a cup of uncooked oats and fill a small muslin bag.
Drop in bathwater.
-OR-
Steep equal amounts Mint, Lavender, Marjoram for atleast 5 minutes in 2 cups very hot water. Strain, toss herbs and then add a small amount of Rose petals and a pinch or 2 of Basil to the liquid. Add liquid to bathwater.
Baths for Inflammations of the Skin~
All of the following are said to help heal inflammations & generally cleanse the skin: alder, dandelion leaves, elecampane, lady's mantle, mint, plantain.
Chamomile~ extracts of the plant or the oil itself has 3 primary uses: 1) as an anti-inflammatory for various afflictions of the skin & mucous membranes;
2) as an antispasmodic for treating ailments such as indigestion & menstrual cramps; 3) as an anti-infective for numerous minor illnesses.
Marigold leaves are reputed to heal body scars and soothe varicose veins.
Burdock root, Ginger, Cayenne & Hyssop are diaphoretic (induce sweating) when added to the bath. For a cold or flu, add eucalyptus to the hot bathwater.
Fill a small muslin bag with some of these along with a handful of uncooked oats.
