From Ameesha:

I just checked out yr weekly quiz and like to make some clarifications.Firstly when you say Best Story you mean Best Screenplay right? I think before the 60's the Best Story category was known as Best Writing for Original Story and Best Writing,Adaptation. After the 60's it was known as Best Writing,Original Screenplay and Best Writing Screenplay Adapted fr Other Material. Now what I want to say is, Silence of The Lambs did win all these awards. All these movies ,It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Silence of the Lamb won an Oscar for Best Writing,Adaptation or Best Writing, Screenplay Adapted from Other Material. Below are the facts to support my claim.

1935     Best Picture - It Happened One Night.
Best Actor   -  Clark Gable(It Happened One Night)
Best Actress -  Claudette Colbert(It happened One Night)
Best Director -  Frank Capra (It Happened One Night)
                  Best Writing/Original Story- Manhattan Melodrama
Best Writing/Adaptation - It Happened One Night

1976       Best Picture -  One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Best Actor - Jack Nicholson (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's  Nest)
Best Actress - Louise Fletcher(One Flew Over the   Cuckoo's Nest)
Best Director - Milos Freman( One Flew Over The Cuckoo's    Nest)
Best Writing, Original Screenplay -Dog day Afternoon Beat Writing,Screenplay Adapted fr Other material-
                   - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

1992       Best Picture - Silence of the Lamb
Best Actor  -  Anthony Hopkins (Silence of The Lamb)
Best Director - Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lamb)
Best Writing Original Written Directly for the Screen- - Thelma and Louise
Best Writing,Screenplay Adapted fr other material- - Silence of The Lamb

Judging from these all 3 of these movies won from Best Screenplay/Adapted and not the Original Screenplay.
