What are Panther
Girls?
"She was magnificent. She might
have been bred from pleasure slaves and she-panthers. She
was sinuous and arrogant, desirable, dangerous, feline. I
had little doubt that she was swift of mind. She was surely
proud and haughty. She was tall and strong, but yet, in her
height, graceful and incredibly lithe. She was perhaps two
inches taller than the average Gorean woman, and yet, due
to the perfect ions of her proportions, she seemed as exquisitely
sensual, as healthy and vital, as vigorous and stunning as
a girl bred deliberately in the slave pens for a such qualities.

Panther girls
are arrogant. They live by themselves in the northern forests,
by hunting, and slaving and outlawry. They have little respect
for anyone, or anything, saving themselves and, undeniably,
the beasts they hunt, the tawny forest panthers, the swift,
sinuous sleen. Hunting is their specialty, with the silence
of night upon their feet, the agility of a larl. No beast
escapes their spears, and of course, will capture anything
that invades their territory --
including other panthers from different tribes, men, women
and slaves. Rarely do they leave their forest home, unless
to trade, slave, or raid.
Panthers are
cautious about accepting newcomers to their ranks. Slaves
who make their way to the forests, are normally enslaved ...
and may also be sold in trade. All males who seek them out
and are found in their territory are captured, shaven and
sold as slaves, in trade for civilized foodstuffs and items
of equipment they need.
Exchange
points are areas of neutrality, where Free persons may meet
with the panthers to trade safely. Slaves, those captive,
are usually traded for arrows or candy. Panther Girls often
have cravings for sweets, among other things. They also survive
by trading with the inhabitants of certain secret settlements
for difficult to obtain supplies.
There are those
of the Panthers who live in the southern part of Gor in the
jungle, amidst the rainforests, and live much as those Panther
girls in the Northern Forests. Those Panthers are referred
to as a "Taluna." Panther's nor Taluna's venture
in any of the major cities, including Ar, unless she is in
disguise. If a Panther ventured that far into civilized territory,
she would undoubtedly be enslaved upon sight.
The Panthers
normally roam in bands, a solitary Panther is more likely
to be enslaved. It is said by the Panthers of the forests,
that if any Panther became enslaved she was truly a slave
in her heart already.
Panthers are
adept with bow and arrows as well as spears, and some are
handy with knives, such as the quiva, the slender daggers
of the wagon peoples.

Panther Girls are runaway women who
live wild and free in the forest as outlaws without free men,
taking as slave any man who enters their domain and eventually
selling him, when it pleased them to do so. Those of the northern
forests dress in the teeth and skins of forest panthers, which
they slay with their spears and bows. Also known as taluna.
(Book 7: Captive of Gor, pages 82 and 118)
Taluna's are free women who lives as a hunter in small tribes
of 15-100 members; they roam the equatorial forests of Gor.
(Book 13: Explorers of Gor, page 384-399)

"She frightened me. She seemed tall, and strong. There
was a feline arrogance in the barbarian beauty. She seemed
magnificent and fierce in the brief skins and golden ornaments.
She put her spear point under my chin and lifted my head.
I was nothing with these proud, free, dangerous, brave women,
these independent, superb, unfearing, resourceful, fierce
felines, panther girls of the northern forests of Gor. They
were swift, and beautiful and arrogant, like Verna. They were
armed, and could protect themselves, and did not need men.
They could make men slaves, if they wished, and sell them
later, if they were displeased with them or wearied of them.
And they could fight with knives and knew the trails and trees
of the vast forests. They feared nothing, and needed nothing."
