DRAMATIC EXIT FOR WATER RATS FAVOURITE

(From a New Zealand TV guide)

Female lead Catherine McClements leaves Water Rats in a dramatic episode on TV2 on Thursday, August 12.

McClements, who plays tough-talking Detective Rachel Goldstein, is the third leading lady toleave a hit Australian series recently.
Blue Heelers' Lisa McCune has announced she is leaving the country cop series to pursue other projects. Her departure will take place in the new series of Blue Heelers which starts on TV1 in a few weeks.
The popular Kristy Wright (Chloe) will also be leaving Home And Away (TV2) this year - again to try new things. In an upcoming storyline James (Michael Piccirilli) asks Chloe to marry him.
While the stars' departure from the three shows has the networks a little worried about the effect on ratings, it seems unlikely it will prove more than a passing glitch.
Water Rats survived the departure of stage and film actor Colin Friels (Detective Frank Holloway) because of a cancer scare and a wish to return to the theatre. His place was more than adequately taken by veteran actor Steve Bisley (Detective Jack Christey) who quickly bedded Goldstein - after years of sexual tension between Goldstein and Holloway remained unresolved.
McCelements, an award-winning actress, is an intensely private person who gained uwelcome publicity over a court case involving a stalker.
Water Rats, launched five years ago, has reached 100 episodes and is one of the most popular shows in Australia - and a top on TV2.
