for the first time, i went to the famous Kwan Im temple with mum & sis on the 1st day of lunar new year. policemen were posted so that the crowd moved in & out of the temple orderly. i thought i saw the human traffic like herds of cattle flowed into the temple for offerings to the gods. i waited outside snapping pics while mum & sis went in.

this year is the first time my family had reunion lunch, coz my sis needs to open her chicken rice stall in the evening & sell overnight. after the lunch, i continue to try out the dvd ripping & burning freewares. despite my com hanging often in the process, i think i ve got the hang of it, more or less. seems like dvd+r works better than dvd-r for my duplicates. i ve no idea why the movie isnt playing as smooth on dvd-r.

according to the chinese 'fortune god' book, which my mum bought, my lucky number for monkey year is 9693. my lucky number for the 1st month is 2488. it seems a pretty good year ahead for a cow, as confirmed by both the book, as well as the fortune-telling expert uncle on TV.

the uncle said a lot on career but i picked up the part on 'pian cai', which is wealth that come from other means, i.e. in my understanding, 4D, shares, gambling, etc. i hope it includes luck in picking up money on the streets as well, coz i don't buy 4D or shares. another good thing is on 'tao hua yun'. he better don't make me happy for nothing.

i threw away my old scanner today, finally. i should ve done so more than a year ago. the thing is it functioned perfectly ok, except that its glass piece came loose on one side, & rendered it useless.

this vistascan scanner was bought during my year 2 in TP design school, that was like at least 4 years ago (?). it s almost twice the thickness of my new epson scanner & around 4 times its price. not many student has a scanner that time. i used to book for the library scanner & save the scanned images on my iomega zip drive (come to think of it, now i m carrying sarotech hardbox portable 80GB hard drive around, & it was 100Mb zip disk last time). luckily, in a way, it was slightly easier to get a holiday job during then. i used to waiter in a wine cellar for a while before poly, and this old acquaintance from there gave me a part time waitering job. the money was kinda pity yet i didn't feel so at that time. after 3 weeks of work i got enough to buy the scanner, which costed about $400(?).

that s why even after i can't use it anymore, & i ve got a newer faster scanner, i still hestitated to throw it away. nevertheless, after more than 12 months of indecisiveness, i finally decided to let it go, & free up some space in my room.

another desktop is added to my family of computers! i ve just got 'Gatchaman', a P4 3.0GHz, running on XP Pro. it won't be as robust as my temporarily defunct workstation 'Ultraman', which has got dual AMD, or so said the expert frens of mine. but i ve yet to test that out. when my replacement for the motherboard comes, both 'Gatchaman' & 'Ultraman' shall be network & work hand-in-hand!
