Britt arranged for one of the foremost Bryce experts to visit our class. He's set up a contest
The rules per Britt: to make a native Bryce render
- with no imports of other models. You may use pictures. You'll have to build something using boolean operations, - and you'll have to do
at least a couple of dives into the material editor.
On a far away planet fly abouts are used for commuting.
The texture on the body was the Rhododendron, tree trunk texture. As you can tell, I modified it a lot! It now has
an alien feel to it. Actually, I modified all the materials used in this image. I used a gradient light to bring out some of the design. Different parts of the flyer have different
modifications. I used Boolean operations to scoop out the body and cut off the wing tips.

Thanks for a great class. I really feel like I've moved up to a new level in my work.
Here's an ice cold toast to you! I know, I know. You don't chill red wine. (grin) However, the color looked better
than white wine would in my image.
Obviously the wineglass is my boolean object. The stem really does fit into the base. I ungrouped everything and checked.
With so much reflection and refraction going on, the wine doesn't look like it fits inside the glass properly, but it does, if
you look closely at the very top.
This is a very icy and cold scene. All the terrains are actually modifications of glass materials. That's what I love
about Bryce - anything can become anything else. My ground plane is actually two flattened terrains.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for this one, but decided to make a tree. Then a terrain in the background. I
decided to use the same material for all 10 or so terrains in this image. I modified the scale on them to add to the
illusion of distance.
I was wracking my brain to come up with a boolean object for this scene. I finally used a sphere to cut out holes in
a cube. Now what? Well, I added a couple of flattened cubes for a roof. I duplicated the house a few times and place
them into my scene. They just didn't look like homes. They looked more like bird houses. Aha! I place one in the
tree.
