Kai Krause has been designing graphics filters for quite some time. His filters are some of the most complex and versitile filters available. This Kai's Power Tools 3 is the first of these that we'll explore in this class. While we did cover some of the same things in FF1, I was still fighting with the interfaces at that point. They make a lot more sense to me now and I've been able to explore some of the more esoteric features this time around.
Take a guess at what this portion designs. Yep, spheres and all things round. This first part we were to work with spheres, what else!
Here I took one of the presets and played around with it. | I've imported some of my own .bmp textures for this one and designed the entire thing from scratch. | Another one that I developed on my own. |
More round things - this time it's planets. You can create some realistic and not so realistic planets.
I followed the lesson up to about step 13 or 14. Then I veered off on my own. Ambiance = 79% and Diffusion = 67%. |
Here's an unlikely planet that I've done by using my own bump mapto simulate mountains and then playing around. |
Somebody was bound to do this, so it might as well be me. (grin) I present - Planet of the Ape. I took an ape image and converted it to gray scale and then to a .bmp file to import into KPT3. This turned out to be the most difficult planet of all, even though it looks the simplest. Getting the right lighting, etc. to make the face stand out was much harder than I anticipated.. |
Another one done using an imported .bmp file and playing around with colors and lighting and then mutating with the smallest ball until I got something I liked. |
