Week 4

Photo Correction - Correcting Image Defects

Couple
Couple Corrected
Original
Fade correction, auto color balance,
and unsharp were used to fix this.

Original Building
Building Corrected
Original showing blocky patches and bleeding pixels caused by .jpg compression.
While these can't be totally corrected, because you can't add back original parts that were already deleted, you can use JPEG artifact removal to improve the image.

Original Woman
Corrected Woman
Lots of scratches on this one -
from her lip down her throat, to
the right of her hair, and on the
bridge of her nose.
Much better!

Used small scratch removal.

Soldier original
Soldier Corrected
Original that needed much work.
It has darkened edges, areas that
are bleached out, scratches, cracks
tears, bleached out blotches, and
washed out areas to name a few.
I used Auto Contrast Enhancement,
Small Scratch Removal, Clone Tool,
Scratch Removal Tool to clean up
the image. A new background was added
by fill flooding with a gradient and
adding a drop shadow. Then the entire
image was clarified.

Cathedral
I took this on our 1991 trip to eastern Europe. Just where this
photo was taken escapes me. Some building. Somewhere. (g)
Can you say color shift? Wow! This is really a lot in
not so many years. I hate to see what I'll face with my father's pics.
Carriage Corrected
This really shows how much a photo can be helped with software
corrections. Unfortunately, I did so much to this one that I
didn't write down what all I did. I did have a bunch of scratches
to fix.
