High Performance Infrastructure for Supporting Large Distributed Information Systems 

ABSTRACT:
In this project, we aim at building a high-performance computation infrastructure for supporting various applications in Sultan Qaboos University and in the Sultanate. In a first stage, a cluster of powerful workstations interconnected by a high-speed switched network will be established, tested, and evaluated. In a second stage, a number of useful applications will be developed making use of the computation power provided by the built cluster. Among the targeted applications, we list a distributed student advising and registration system for the university and a nation-wide Internet-enabled library information system. Various other computation-hungry distributed applications can benefit from the obtained cluster such as an integrated hospital information system linking existing hospital information systems in the country.
