Author’s note: This story is designed for those readers who are already familiar with the TV show Stargate and Hercules, the Legendary Journeys since I did not take the trouble to explain what the Goauld really are. For the uninitiated here goes, the Goauld seek hosts/ human bodies for parasites who need human bodies to live. Once these parasites inhabit the human body, the person inside the human body ceases to exist and becomes enslaved to the parasite (Goauld’s) will. In essence, the fight against the Goauld is the fight for free will and individuality of mankind. (For those of you who are fans of Stargate, I hope I got this right!) The Stargate team travels through a portal to find weapons to fight the Goauld. Their names are: Colonel Jack O’Neill, Captain Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson (the scientist), and Tealc (he has a baby parasite inside him but he’s fighting to free his people of the Goauld).
CHAPTER 1
“Daniel Jackson, how was your expedition to Egypt?”
“Well Tealc, I was able to bring back one interesting artifact. It’s an ancient scroll written about 4,000 years ago. It tells how the Egyptians defeated the Goauld. I’ve spent all night translating the scroll. It reads like mythology.”
“Tell me, Daniel Jackson, how did the humans of Earth defeat the Goauld?” Tealc asks.
Colonel O’Neill and Captain Carter walk in. Colonel O’Neill says hello to Daniel “Well Daniel, it seems we have another assignment to go through the Stargate. We leave in 48 hours. “
“O’Neill, I think we should delay that assignment. Daniel Jackson has found a way to defeat the Goauld” Tealc announces.
Samantha Carter notices the scroll that Daniel Jackson has been working on “So is this the artifact you’re so excited about?”
“You know Sam, this scroll describes how the ancient Egyptians defeated the Goauld and sent them back through the portal. I don’t know how much of it is true and how much of it is myth. Here let me read the scroll to you..”
O’Neill takes a seat besides Captain Carter “This I got to hear! We’ve got 48 hours. Let’s go!”
4,000 years ago in Egypt….
“Okay Herc, so how are we supposed to send these Goauld creatures back through the portal?”
“I don’t know Iolaus. All I know is that I can’t defeat them alone. They are too powerful. I’m going to need help.”
Cleopatra walks up to Hercules “I must thank you for your help but I’m afraid Iolaus is right. The Goauld are no match for mortal soldiers.”
Hercules ponders Cleopatra’s words “No match for “mortal” soldiers. I think I have an idea.”
“Iolaus, I’m going back to Greece. We need reinforcements. I’m going to go to Zeus for help.. I really have no choice. The Goauld will enslave Gods and mortals alike. If we are to defeat the Goauld, both Gods and mortals have to unite. If not, the Goauld will bring darkness and destruction to this realm.”
Iolaus looks into Hercules’ azure eyes in understanding. Iolaus knows how difficult it is for Hercules to swallow his pride and go to Zeus for help. “I know you are doing the right thing. The Olympians and the Titans and the mortals must unite to fight these creatures. The Goauld pose a threat to both Gods and mortals alike. Good luck Hercules. I’ll keep an eye on Cleopatra for you.”
“Father, I know how much you and the Titans dislike each other. But you must understand the Goauld are stronger than all the Gods put together. We must assemble all the Gods from all the countries and unite and fight as one force if we are to protect this realm. I see no other way to defeat Apophus, the head Goauld.”
“Hercules, I understand your concern. That’s why all the Gods have already assembled in Olympus. We have already devised a plan. However, these Goauld are too clever. They can easily detect the presence of a God. We have here poisoned ambrosia. It will knock the Goauld out. All you and Iolaus need to do is to trick the Goauld into eating this and then only then can we use the power of the united Gods to send them back through the portal”
“Can these Goauld detect me? I am half-God. I mean…”Realization dawns on Hercules at what his father is asking him to do..” Oh no, Father, I am NOT sending Iolaus into the Goauld ship. I will NOT have him risk himself that way. I will NOT have him transformed into one of them…”
“It’s the only way to save the realm. Iolaus is mortal. They will not detect him. All Iolaus has to do is plant the poisoned ambrosia in their food and we Gods will do the rest.”
“ No, Father. There must be some other way. I am half-mortal, can’t you and all the Gods find a way to disguise me enough for me to get in?”
Zeus looks at his son in compassion and understands how much Iolaus means to him “Son, in order for this to work, we must be absolutely certain that the Goauld do not detect a God. With Iolaus, I am certain he will succeed.”
“No Father, you are certain that Iolaus is the only mortal foolhardy enough to attempt a hare-brained scheme like this. You have already taken advantage of Iolaus’ friendship with me. I will NOT let you use him again. Find another way to destroy the Goauld!”
Hercules becomes so angry that he throws a pillar at Zeus “No, you mean you don’t want ME to go because you are still trying to protect me by sacrificing Iolaus! That’s it isn’t it? You Gods think Iolaus is unimportant..a puny mortal to manipulate well I won’t have any of it! Find a way to disguise me or Iolaus isn’t going at all!”
Zeus sits down on his throne with a worried look on his face. He telepathically communicates his problem with his stubborn son to the other Gods. “Alright, Hercules, we will disguise you. But be warned. You are complicating matters. Your presence alone will endanger Iolaus. But we will disguise your Olympian heritage.”
With a whirl of his hand, Zeus sends Hercules back to Egypt. Iolaus is talking with Cleopatra eating out of a bowl of fruit when he sees an angry-looking Hercules appear out of nowhere.
“So Herc, I take it your meeting with Zeus went well..or as usual” Iolaus comments sarcastically. “Did you and Zeus have another fight?”
“We don’t have time to discuss Zeus. His selfishness knows no bounds..”Hercules could feel his anger rising and realizes that it will not help the Goauld situation so he wills himself to focus on the topic at hand. Hercules takes a breath and focuses his azure eyes on Cleopatra.
“Your majesty, Iolaus and I will sneak aboard the Goauld ship. We will slip some poison into their food. This poisoned ambrosia should render the Goauld unconscious. Then the Gods will use their collective powers to send all the Goauld and their ships through the portal and far from this world. Then I am confident we will be safe from these creatures.”
Cleopatra rises “I knew I could count on you Hercules, and you Iolaus. You two are truly heroes. I will have some guards accompany you on this task.”
“No, your majesty. I think it is best if just Iolaus and I go. We can’t afford the Goauld to find out about this. We have only one shot at defeating the Goauld.”
“Ah, Herc, how are we going to sneak into the Goauld compound?” Iolaus asks his cerulean eyes meeting Hercules’ azure ones with uncertainty.
“We’re going to disguise ourselves as slaves. We must hurry the longer we wait, the more the stronger the Goauld become.”
“You know Herc, back to back, I’ll watch your back you watch mine. I’ll do whatever is necessary to rid ourselves of these parasites.” Iolaus gives Hercules a warrior handshake.
“Come on, Cleopatra says she can get us some good slave outfits.” Hercules and Iolaus follow Cleopatra into her harem room.
“You know Herc, that diaphanous material is so thin I can see EVERYTHING. You know Herc, you’re an ugly girl! Too much hair on the chest!”
“You know Iolaus..you don’t look to bad as a girl! Try to put some more material around your waist. You’re too exposed over there!”
Daniel Jackson was about to continue when Colonel O’Neill interrupts. “Get to the point, Daniel. Did Hercules and Iolaus succeed in planting the poison?”
“Hold on, let me read a little further. Yes, Hercules and Iolaus manage to sneak onto the Goauld ship as concubines. They slip the food into the Goauld’s food. They knock the Goauld out. Then the Gods use some kind of energy pulse and send the unconscious Goauld and their ships far out into space. Then Hercules buries the Stargate into the Egyptian desert where it is excavated by Catherine in the 1940’s. End of story.”
Colonel O’Neill sits back to analyze the data. “You know if we can get the recipe of this poison, we can use it as a weapon against the Goauld. Do you have any other scrolls?”
Samantha Carter had been spending some time checking the computers to see if any other scrolls exist in any collection in a museum “Well, well, it seems that other scrolls do exist. The descendents of Hercules and Iolaus have the remaining scrolls. According to computer records, the direct descendent of Iolaus is Erik Erikson and the direct descendent of Hercules is Liam Parker. You know guys we have 48 hours, let’s go check these guys out and see what we can find out!”
CHAPTER 2
“I will allow Daniel Jackson and Tealc to leave the mountain in search of these descendents to find out more about how the Eygyptians defeated the Goauld. You have 24 hours. Your next Stargate assignment is extremely sensitive. This poison can prove useful in our assault against the Goauld” barks General Hammond.
“Colonel O’Neill and Captain Carter will remain on the mountain to survey how close the Goauld are getting to Earth.” Hammond says.
Daniel Jackson and Tealc head toward the Metropolitan County Hospital where Hercules works as an emergency room doctor. Iolaus drives his paramedics van to the hospital with the injured. Hercules comes out of the hospital to handle triage.
“According to the computer records that tall guy is Liam Parker, the direct descendent of Hercules and that short blond guy driving the ambulance is Erik Erikson, the direct descendent of Iolaus. We will need their cooperation to get the recipe for the poison that their ancestors used against the Goauld”
Tealc narrows his eyes as he recognizes Liam Parker as Hercules and Erik Erikson as Iolaus. “Daniel Jackson, I recognize these men. I’ve seen them before. They are Hercules and Iolaus.”
Daniel turns to Tealc in disbelief “That’s impossible. Nobody lives for 4,000 years. Besides genealogical records show that these men are descendents there’s no other logic…”
Tealc interrupts Daniel in mid-speech “My symbiont recognizes Hercules as the one who poured the poison into our food while Iolaus provided a distraction.”
Daniel pauses for a moment to consider what Tealc just said. Obviously Tealc believes what he says. Could it be possible? Could Hercules and Iolaus still be alive after all these centuries? If so, how do I approach them?
“Tealc, my friend, as impossible as 4,000 year old immortals may sound. I believe you but I don’t think we need to tell Colonel O’Neill or any of the others on the SG-1 team. For now, it’s just between us.”
Iolaus turns around as he feels the familiar tingling of the hairs on the back of his neck as he realizes someone is tracking and/or following him. “Herc, I think we’re being followed.”Iolaus’ eyes widens as he sees the tattoo on Tealc’s forehead and recognizes the sign of the Jaffa.
“Herc, do you see what I see? That’s a Jaffa. A Goauld. Herc, I thought you buried that portal deep in the desert. That Jaffa is approaching us. What should we do?” Iolaus immediately takes a defensive stance.
“Let me handle this.” Hercules uses his massive body to shield Iolaus from any possible attack from the approaching Jaffa.
Tealc approaches Hercules and Iolaus. Daniel Jackson smiles and introduces himself.
“Hello, my name is Daniel Jackson. I am a scientist.” Daniel motions to Tealc “This is my friend Tealc.”
Iolaus stares warily at the Jaffa tattoo on Tealc’s head still unsure how to answer. Hercules introduces himself “Hi, I’m Liam Parker and that very stunned blond man is Erik Erikson. How may we help you?”
“I’m sorry to cut straight to the chase but Tealc and I are on a very tight schedule. On a recent expedition to Egypt, I found this old scroll which contains an interesting account of how Hercules and Iolaus of Ancient Greece defeated the Goauld by poisoning them. Tealc and I are fighting against the Goauld and we need to know the recipe for that poison.” Daniel Jackson says calmly.
“Our research shows that you, Liam Parker are the direct descendent of Hercules and you Erik Erikson are the direct descendent of Iolaus….at this point Tealc interrupts.
“Daniel Jackson, as I have told you before, this is Hercules and Iolaus. They are not descendents. I recognize them.” Tealc makes a direct appeal to Hercules and Iolaus, Teal’c looks Hercules and Iolaus straight in the eye and says: “I am fighting the Goauld to free my people from Goauld enslavement. My people, the Jaffa, have been enslaved by the Goauld for 4,000 years. Unlike Earth, we were unable to defeat the Goauld when they attacked my planet. They used their portal to transport themselves to my planet and then they transformed my people into slaves. I don’t want Earth to become enslaved. The Goauld pose a grave threat to Earth. Please, we need your help.”
Iolaus relaxes his stance as he realizes that Tealc is one of the good guys “I’m sorry about how the Goauld enslaved your people. Of course we’ll do anything we can to help.” Iolaus turns to Hercules “So Herc, what was in that poison we used against the Goauld?”
Hercules looks astonished as this turn of events. It has been centuries since anyone has used his ancient Greek name. “Ahh..I don’t know. Artemis gave me the poison..I never bothered to ask what was in it…it was a gift from the Gods…”
Iolaus rolls his eyes and puts his hands on his hips as he stares at the Big Guy “You could always go up to Olympus and go to Zeus’ old vaults and find it. I’m sure Aphrodite remembers where Zeus kept his secret weapons. The twilight of the Gods only means that they can’t descend to Earth but that doesn’t mean you can’t go to them. Besides you are King of the Gods with Zeus’ death.”
Hercules winces as he remembers how he had to kill Zeus to save Xena’s baby. The death of Zeus made Hercules the unofficial King of the Gods. “.
“Listen, I’m sorry to bring up such a painful subject and such a painful memory but you have the right to know what’s in the poison to help humanity fight the Goauld” insists the Golden Hunter
Hercules looks first at Iolaus and then at Daniel “Of course, I’ll help. I’ll have Aphrodite take me to Olympus and I’ll find the orb that Zeus used to defeat the Goauld.“
Hercules take out a transporter orb and transports himself to Olympus where he sees Aphrodite, the only one of the Gods left after the Twilight of the Gods
”Hey big bro, here’s the orb Father used to kill those butt-ugly Goauld. The Fates told me to get this from Father’s dusty vaults. Good luck, Hercules.” Aphrodite hands Hercules the poisonous orb used to destroy the Titans. “One word of warning, only a God can handle this orb. I think that through the centuries, the poison orb has grown stronger. You know like good wine, it ages well. If a mortal touches the orb, it will kill him. So, don’t let Sweetcheeks play hero, okay big bro?”
“Thank you Aphrodite. I knew I could count on you to be there. Say Hi to the Jester and Nautica for me.” Hercules gives his sister a hug before she transports Hercules back to Iolaus and Daniel.
Iolaus looks at his partner cerulean blue eyes meeting azure eyes “You weren’t even gone a minute, Herc, that was FAST work!”
Hercules, a bit dazed and disoriented from his trip from Olympus, faces Daniel Jackson and Iolaus and replies “Well, as soon as I arrived on Olympus, Aphrodite just hands me this orb which contains the poison. She knew all along that I was coming.”
Impatient for action, Iolaus questions Daniel Jackson “So, what’s our next plan of action?” Then before Daniel Jackson could respond Iolaus with his hands on his hip turns to Hercules “Well, Herc, so when do we get to plant the poison..oh and this time YOU be the distraction!”
“Wait a second guys..I appreciate your help but I think SG-1 will take care of the Goauld from here. This is a military operation. I doubt that General Hammond will allow civilians on a Stargate mission.”
Aprhodite whispers to Hercules “Hercules, you are the only one who can plant the poison. If a mortal touches that orb, it will kill him. It doesn’t harm you because of your Olympian heritage. This poison is a lot faster acting than the last poison we used on the Goauld. You must accompany SG-1 on their Stargate mission.”
“Listen, Mr. Jackson, and Mr. Tealc..Aphrodite told me that only I can plant the poison. She told me that if anyone else touches this orb, it will kill them. So I’m afraid I will have to accompany you on your Stargate mission.”Hercules says matter of factly.
“Very well, you and Iolaus come right with me. We will take you to the mountain.” Daniel says reluctantly. Daniel shakes his head as he wonders “How am I going to explain this one to General Hammond?”
CHAPTER 3
Hercules,Iolaus, Daniel Jackson and Tealc arrive at the Mountain. They are met at the door by General Hammond, Captain Carter and Colonel O’Neill.
Daniel makes the introductions. “Liam Parker, descendent of Hercules and Erik Erikson, descendent of Iolaus, I want you to meet General Hammond, Colonel Jack O’Neill and Captain Samantha Carter.”
Tealc whispers into Daniel’s ear “Daniel, I thought I had corrected you earlier. These are not descendents. They are THE Hercules and Iolaus.
“Tealc, trust me. I know what I’m doing. Promise me you won’t say anything.”
“I promise Daniel Jackson. I do not understand all this mystery.”
General Hammond looks at Hercules and Iolaus. Then he looks at Tealc and Daniel Jackson for an explanation as to why two civilians were allowed entrance to a top secret government facility. “Dr. Parker and Mr. Erikson, I am pleased to meet your acquaintance. I must talk with my team. Kindly wait for me here. “
“Alright, start talking, why are these civilians on my base? Did you get the recipe for the poison?
Daniel squirms under the intense angry glare of the General as he tries to explain in a nervous voice “Well you see, General..ahh..we don’t have the recipe for the poison, these two civilians procured the poison for us. That’s why they’re here. No one can touch the poison except Hercules or Iolaus. It’s the same poison that the Egyptians of Cleopatra used, General.”
“It seems that the poison is deadly to anyone who doesn’t have the DNA pattern of Hercules or Iolaus..in other words..us sir. Only Hercules and Iolaus can handle the poison.”
“Do these civilians have any military training or experience?” asks the General.
“Why do you ask sir” inquires a curious Colonel O’Neill.
“Your next Stargate mission will be a sabotage mission. The SG-1 team will have 20 minutes to plant a bomb on a Goauld ship located at these coordinates. We are going to need that poison to knock the Goauld out while the SG-1 team plants the bomb. If you don’t return in 20 minutes, we will close the iris.”
“How are we going to plant the poison if we can’t touch it?” asks a puzzled Daniel Jackson.
“Perhaps if you give me more time I can come up with an alternate version of the poison that our team can then use…” adds Samantha Carter ever the scientist.
Tealc shakes his head “The Jaffa who gave me the information tells me that the ship will be moving out of range soon. If we don’t plant the bomb now, the ship will be too far for us to board. We need to take action now.”
“General Hammond, you can’t mean that you want those two civilians to plant the poison..I mean they’re not militarily trained..how can they join the SG-1 team?” inquires Colonel O’Neill incredulously.
“I’m sorry Daniel Jackson but this mission is way too important for the safety of Earth. The General needs to know. These two civilians are NOT descendents of Hercules and Iolaus. They ARE the same Hercules and Iolaus who planted the original poison 4,000 years ago. My symbiont recognizes them. Hercules and Iolaus planted the poison then. They can do it again. General, we need to act now before the Goauld get away. We have NO time to waste.” General Hammond gives Teal’c a stunned look as he absorbs the fact that this is THE same Hercules and Iolaus who planted the original poison 4,000 years ago. Hammond finds this hard to believe but with all the Stargate missions reports he has read and all the strange aliens he has encountered since first starting the Stargate program, nothing seems impossible anymore to General Hammond—even the idea of 4,000 year old immortals like Hercules and Iolaus.
“I believe you, Tealc..alright people. Let’s tell Hercules our plans. Okay people, Open the iris and prepare for the next mission. Meet me here in 5 minutes. Dismissed.”
Meanwhile, Hercules and Iolaus wait outside the conference room staring at the huge obelisk which is the Stargate.
“You know Iolaus, I buried that portal deep in the Egyptian desert. I can’t believe it’s in use again. I’d just wish they had kept that damn portal buried. I wouldn’t have to go sneaking on board another Goauld ship and plant the poison all over again.”
Before Iolaus could respond, SG-1 members appear to explain the grim situation at hand.
General Hammond looks at the two Greeks and says “We will be boarding a Goauld ship. The SG-1 team will plant the bomb. You two will plant the poison. You all have 20 minutes to complete this mission is that understood?”
For the first time since Hercules and Iolaus graduated from Cheiron’s academy, they found themselves saluting a superior officer. Both Greeks simultaneously saluted and said “ Yes sir”
Colonel O’Neill briefs everyone on the mission “We will all be wearing these special suits which will render us invisible. The power supply in these suits has only 20 minutes of power. Hercules, Iolaus, you have 20 minutes to plant the poison. Tealc and Daniel will accompany you. Captain Carter and I will plant the bomb. Is everyone clear on their assignments. Everyone head to the lockers to put on your suits. Meet me here in 3 minutes in front of the Stargate. Dismissed.”
“Did you hear that Herc, they know who we are! Tealc must have told Hammond and the rest of them.”
Tealc having extra sensitive hearing responds “Do not worry Iolaus, SG-1 team are honorable people. They will keep your secret. Their main concern is fighting the Goauld. Come with me, the lockers are this way.”
3 minutes later. Hercules, Iolaus and the rest of the SG-1 team are assembled in front of the Stargate portal ready to step through.
“You know Herc, at least this time we didn’t have to dress up as harem women to sneak on board the Goauld ship. These invisible suits are KEWL!” as Iolaus looks up to Hercules with a gleaming smile.
“I do hope they hurry. This poison orb is beginning to burn my skin and I’m a half-God!”whines Hercules.
“Stop your whining..you weren’t the one who had to be the distraction last time. Those Goald couldn’t keep their slimy hands off me when I danced for them. It was downright humiliating! At least this time, I get to keep my pants and shirt on! I love these invisible suits!”as Iolaus admires his invisible body suit and his hands touch nothing but air as he tries to feel his body suit.
“Iolaus, will you stop fidgeting? We’re about to step into the portal. You need to concentrate so you won’t get hurt.” Hercules says.
“Oh Herc, stop being such a worrywart. Piece of cake last time we did this it was just the two of us. Now we’ve got a whole Stargate team with us. No problem” Iolaus rolls his eyes at Hercules for being such a mother hen.
The iris of the Stargate opens to reveal a calm pool of water. Hercules and Iolaus as well as the rest of the SG-1 team step through the gate. As they travel through the gate, Iolaus manages to say “KEWL!” Two seconds later, all our heroes have arrived on the Goauld ship.
O’Neill looks at his team “Okay guys let’s synchronize our watches. We have exactly 20 minutes before our invisibility shield runs out. Good luck.”
Hercules, Iolaus, Tealc, and Daniel Jackson head for the main water well into which Hercules is to throw the poison. Meanwhile, O’Neill and Carter head in the opposite direction to plant the bomb.
“Herc, you remember the way? “Iolaus runs his fingers through his golden blond hair in frustration as he no longer remembers where they had planted the poison before.
“Iolaus, it’s been awhile.” Hercules creases his brow in concentration as he tries to remember where the main ventilation system is.
“No need for you to remember. I know the way.” Tealc responds as he leads Hercules and Iolaus to the main water well area. “Just throw the poison here into the vent”
Hercules uses all his Olympian strength and throws the poison into the ventilation pipes. In several seconds all Goauld in the immediate area are knocked unconscious.
“Come on..we must head back to the Stargate. Carter and O’Neill will be waiting for us there.”
“Tealc,” says Hercules “We’d better hurry, we have only a couple of minutes before our air runs out. Come on Iolaus stop staring at the unconscious women. Let’s go.” Hercules grabs Iolaus suit and drags him along.
Unfortunately not all the Goauld are knocked out. The invisible suits are no longer invisible. Carter and O’Neill are doing their best to fight off the Goauld. Hercules tackles the Goauld head on. He smashes his head into one and knocks him clear across the room. Iolaus kicks the Goauld in the stomach and as the Goauld doubles over in pain, Iolaus knocks the Goauld out unconscious with a karate chop to the neck. Two Goauld run toward Tealc, Tealc uses his laser gun and shoots several Goauld at a time.
O’Neill yells from across the room “Daniel, have you finished dialing in the address..hurry! I think our air is running out..”
Hercules smashes two Goauld together. He and Iolaus then step aside as the Goauld run into each other. Hercules takes Iolaus and swings him around and lets Iolaus’ legs kick and knock out all the surrounding Goauld. Next, Hercules flips Iolaus over his shoulder and several Goauld soldiers run into each other where Iolaus once stood.
As Daniel dials the address, the Stargate portal opens and our heroes jump into the portal back to the safety of the mountain.
CHAPTER 4
As the SG-1 team once again travels through the Stargate towards Earth, Iolaus issues his usual “KEWL” as they travel through the interdimensional tunnels through space back to Earth. The minute the SG-1 team lands through the portal, General Hammond closes the iris.
“Herc, that was one KEWL ride. Stargate riding is FUN!” yells an excited Iolaus. “I wish we could do it again!” his cerulean blue eyes lit with excitement and fun.
As they speak, bodies could be heard as they thudded against the closed iris of the Stargate. General Hammond approaches Hercules.
“Hercules, I know you are concerned about the safety of Earth and that’s why you buried the portal in the Egyptian desert all those years ago. I am also aware that you do not approve of our Stargate operation” General Hammond pauses.
“General Hammond, I mean you no disrespect, it’s just that the very existence of this portal poses a grave threat to Earth. In my time, it took the combined forces of all the Gods working together to repel the Goauld. As long as that portal remains operational, the Goauld once again threaten Earth.I think it’s time we bury the Stargate once again. It’s the only way to safeguard this planet.”Hercules states.
“Do you see that iris? Do you see how it closes right after SG-1 arrival? When the iris is closed, no Goauld can come through the portal. As long as the iris is closed, Earth is safe from the Goauld. Hercules, we need to stand together against the Goauld. Just like in your time when all the Gods had to get together to unite to fight against the Goauld, You and I must unite to fight against the Goauld. If we fight amongst ourselves, the Goauld will won. We can’t afford to squabble amongst ourselves. We need to share our resources and information evenly for the sake of the planet and all our loved ones in order to protect it.” Hammond states proudly.
Hercules looks Hammond straight in the eye. “I believe you, General. The Fates were right all along. The Fates foretold that one day humanity would no longer need the Gods to protect them. That one day humanity could stand on its own to fight any enemies that threaten it. Yes, you are right, General, you and I, must unite together to fight the Goauld. We are the future of humanity. You have my fullest cooperation in any future ventures into the Stargate. I’m sorry if I doubted your abilities to guard the Stargate.”
“No hurt feelings son. Besides it has been an honor and a privilege to work with you Hercules and I hope that if you ever need anything from SG-1, consider it done. Hercules, Iolaus. Job well done.” General Hammond gives both Iolaus and Hercules a handshake and walks away.
Iolaus releases a breath of relief as he looks up into the worried face of his tall friend. Hercules worries too much. I’m so glad that he will allow us another ride into that portal. It’s such fun. “Herc, wasn’t that fun fighting the Goauld, it was like old times, back to back fighting heroes..”
“Yeah, Iolaus you’re right. I guess it is fun riding through that thing. I just wish I didn’t have to worry so much about everyone’s safety…”
Iolaus rolls his eyes “I thought you just motherhenned me. You motherhen everyone! Have faith in SG-1, they can guard Earth from the Goauld. Relax. Enjoy the ride. Let Hammond and SG-1 be the heroes for a change. Let’s just help where we can. Admit it Herc, we’re the sidekicks now!”
Hercules slaps Iolaus on the back and laughs “You’re right, Iolaus I do worry too much. Come on, let’s get home. Serena’s cooking roast beef tonight. You can regale the kids with our adventures just like old times”
“Oh yeah, your wife knows how to cook. I’m starving Herc..let’s get out of this mountain and eat us some roast beef!” as Iolaus speaks his stomach growls loudly. Iolaus pats his stomach for emphasis. “And after dinner, I can then tell the kids how I beat up all the Goauld all by myself! With a little help from you of course!” Iolaus giggles.
“Iolaus, my friend, it never ceases to amaze me how you can always be so hungry”
“Herc, there’s nothing like a KEWL ride in that Stargate contraption and a good clean fight slaying monsters again to rev up a man’s appetite.” Hercules watches in amazement as Iolaus literally bounces out the door and into the sunshine.
“Come on Herc, there’s the military truck that’ll take us out of here. I can smell the roast beef from here. What are you waiting for? Aw don’t tell me you’re still worried about that portal being operational?” as Iolaus looks up into the worried eyes of his tall friend.
With a faraway look in his eyes, Hercules contemplates the future “I can’t help it Iolaus..we destroyed one Goauld ship..something tells me more Goauld are on the way. I just can’t shake this feeling. I know SG-1 can handle it…still..I wish I could do more…”
In a voice that brooks no opposition Iolaus states simply “You’re right..we will probably have to face the Goauld again and again..as a human race..we can’t just bury the portal and live in fear that the Goauld will strike again. Herc, haven’t you ever been curious about other worlds? Other possibilities? That’s what the Stargate does. I think it’s worth the risk if humanity gets to learn from other cultures. I mean Herc, what’s life without risks? You know you really are a worrywart. Stop worrying and let’s get some grub.”
Hercules relaxes. A look of calm and amusement comes over his handsome features “Iolaus, you’re right. If SG-1 can bring back the cure for cancer from another world, then you’re right..burying the portal isn’t the answer..come on..let’s go home..I miss Serena and the kids..”
“Who knows Herc, maybe I can persuade that cute-looking Samantha Carter if we can go on one of those explorations..just think how much fun it will be to explore another world..riding that KEWL Stargate portal..eating exotic foods….”
“It always comes back to food with you doesn’t it..” Hercules’ eyebrows rises quizzically.
“Food and women…Herc..Food and women..and yeah Serena’s homecooking” Iolaus giggles. Hercules rolls his eyes as he hears Iolaus’ giggle and he thinks the more things change the more they remain the same. Iolaus my friend I hope you never change. Back to Back heroes.
