family: She was raised by her father, who "passed beyond the veil" during the Earth-Minbari War, which reportedly broke his heart. Her mother joined the Sisters of Valeria after her birth, and she has seen her only twice. Marries John Sheridan, and they will have a son, David.

religion: She is of the Minbari religious caste, in which she has great faith. Delenn believes that "we are the universe made manifest..." etc. etc.

strength: strength of will; persuasive speeches; knowledge (something of an understatement); mystifying/confusing everyone

weakness: John; hair

catch phrase: "Faith manages."

role: she is the One Who Is; its immediate meaning has to do with her "current" appointment as Anlashok Na (Ranger One); however, Zathras called her the "middle of the story," and we may read deeper implications into his words. She is the one who declares that there should be "no mercy" for the humans during the Earth-Minbari War; she is the one who chooses Sinclair to examine and convinces the others of the necessity of ending their war before they annihilate Humanity. She watches over Sinclair, ensuring his transformation into Valen. She becomes half-human to bridge barriers between their peoples. She breaks the Gray Council, thus gaining the support she needs to aid Babylon 5 in breaking free from Earth; she restores it, finally granting equity to the Worker Caste. She makes sure that Sheridan can fulfill his destiny (and their destiny sorta meets...that's fun, too:)

She's a very spiritual person, and if nothing else, it adds to the sense of her wisdom. It also has everything to do with the way her character works--she has faith that a purpose exists to the universe, and such a belief completely shades the way a character approaches life and reacts to it.

Well, at this point, I've said quite a bit about Delenn, so I'm going to move on to someone else while this surge of writing's still coming...

shilpa's comments: Mysterious, strong, multidimensional characters always tend to be up there on my list of favorites. Delenn's very wise. In fact, she sometimes appears to know everything, which is clearly not the case. She has her doubts--and they're what makes her a believable character. (Scenes from "The Inquisitor and "War Without End" come to mind.) I find the spiritual aspect of her quite appealing, and her relationship with John's fun.

Delenn basically impressed me the first few times I saw her because 1. she seemed very wise and 2. I started watching during third season reruns, and the first times I saw her were the rather notorious scenes--the "be somewhere else" scene, the break-up of the Gray Council...and at the same time, there were scenes that showed her vulnerable side...like I said, I was impressed.
