Here's a 1000 pt army that should work well
against Space Marines. I haven't tried it yet though. The thinking behind it is
- Big Guys.
HQ -
Hive Tyrant - Adrenal glands (WS and I), enhanced senses, extended carapace,
toxin sacs, warp blast, scything talons.
3 Tyrant Guards
Elites -
1 Lictor
3 Warriors - Adrenal glands (WS and I), toxin sacs, extended carapace, scything
talons, rending claws, leaping
Troops -
19 Attack gaunts (basic with leaping and scything talons) - Hive Node mutation
19 Spinegaunts (basic gaunts w/ spinefist) - Hive Node mutation
Heavy Support -
Old One Eye
1 Zoanthroape - Warp blast
Well the thinking behind it is Big Guys. That
means it has really hard monstrous creatures. This works well against Marines
because they have a tough time killing the big brutes and they get mangled when
fighting your monsters.
The Tyrant, Old One Eye and the 3 Tyrant Guards
should all go in one brood. This means an impossibly hard combat unit should
they get sidetracked whilst heading for the main Marine lines. Old One Eye is
just there for protection.
The enemy won't know what to shoot at. They could
waste their time shooting at your Big Guy brood, but really, what's the chance
of them inflicting serious harm? They might kill a couple of the Tyrant Guards
but the Tyrant can manage well without them. Equally, it will be a waste of time
for them to shoot at the relatively harmless Gaunts. Killing the Warriors will
not have much effect since the Gaunts have Hive Node mutations.
At a convenient point, Old One Eye should split
away from the brood and head for any armoured vehicles - tanks, dreadnaughts
etc.
When Old One Eye breaks away from the brood, the
enemy will not have a clue what to shoot at at all. Even if they do shoot the
old Carnifex, he's very tough and regenerates anyway.
The Attack gaunts and Warriors will charge on
turn 2 usually, swamping the enemy and preventing them from firing. This is
vital for your Big Guys.
The Zoanthroape is just a distraction really. It
might take out a Marine or two, or a Dreadnaught. But it probably won't. It's
just there to attract fire from foolish Marine players.
Finally, the icing on the cake comes - the Lictor.
Just when your enemy is swamped down by Gaunts and being trampled on by your Big
Guys, and thinks things can't get any worse, the Lictor pops up out of nowhere
and joins the slaughter. Then, when (if) they manage to overwhelm it - bang! it
disappears into the undergrowth once more... only to charge in again next turn!
Well, it looks good in writing, but I can't
really say how good it is until I've tried it. Feel free to try it out.
