Tweak UI is a powerful developer's tool that Microsoft programmers used for testing purposes. It also doubles as a great utility for customizing the way Windows works. You can do some amazing things in Tweak UI, but how do you get it? Some people may have it on their Windows CD, but nowadays most people don't.

Whether you find Tweak UI nestled on the Windows CD or you download it from Microsoft, here's how to install it:

Those who can't find it on the CD should head to Microsoft's website and search for Tweak UI. At last report you could find it here. If you have Windows 2000, sorry. There's only the 9x version.

Download Tweak UI to your hard drive.

Create a temporary folder in your C drive. You can call it "tweakui."

Run the tweakui.exe file and tell it to extract the files to the folder you made.

(Now for the tricky part that no one ever tells you.)

Go into the folder. All the files are named tweakui, but one of them is of the type "control panel extension." You may have to change your view to detailed. (Go to the menu option View and select Details.)

Right-click the file and choose install. If you don't have the option to choose install, double-click the file.

It may ask you where to find a particular file. Type in the path to the folder with all the tweakui files.

Now you will find the tweakui icon in your control panel.

Go to the Start menu, then Settings, then Control Panel.

Double-click the tweakui icon.

Voila! You now have Tweak UI at your disposal whenever your little heart desires it.
