beat match -v 1. the act of mixing 2. the art of synching two different records together to form a seamless beat bpm Beats Per Minute.
decks -n devices used by DJ's for spinning records
DJ -n (abbr.) 1. Disk Jockey 2. the creator of music, without the DJ there would be no rave. 3. spins records making ravers dance.
drum n bass -n music; consisting of high, fast paced drum beats, and deep, deep hard hitting bass lines
flight case -n object; a rectangular metal or canvas container that dj's use to cart their record collection around in 2. number one cause of dj back pain and sore arms
funky breaks -n music; tracks consist of funk inspired grooves, productive break beats with hybrid programming ranging at about 120 to 130 beats per minute
happy hardcore -n music; consisting of hard bass beats and a happy, uplifting sound usu. between 140-160 bpm. very melodic, often with pianos and female vocals.
jungle -n music; consisting of drum and bass, with an MC
junglist -n one who finds extreme bliss in the enjoyment of and furthering the jungle scene
live pa -n Live Performance Artist. a musician who creates music on the spot using a varied array of computer equipment and electronic devices
MC -n Master of Ceremonies. an individual using a microphone to add lyrics or rhymes over top, and along with, a beat. usually with jungle, happy hardcore and hardcore music
mix -v (-ing -s) term used to describe when a DJ uses two records simultaneously and seamlessly (one hopes) matches the beats together to create one continuous sound or track
record -n a disc carrying recorded sound in grooves on each surface for reproduction on a turntable
speed garage -n music; consisting of round-phat- marshmallow bass beats, usu. with an uplifting tone
spin -v (-ing, -s) the act of mixing and playing records (who is going to spin next?)
stage -n 1. area where the DJ spins, usu. an elevated platform above the crowd 2. area which everyone who is someone or thinks they are someone tries to get behind
tag team -n two DJs playing at the same time but who switch off at regular intervals to let the other spin
techno -n an overall general description of the music ravers listen to, usu. used by individuals who are totally unfamiliar with the scene
throw down, threw down -v the act of spinning records (that dj threw down an amazing set)
trance music - a 4/4 beat often with layers of repetitive sounds and long sections of melody resulting in very complex musical patterns
train wreck -adv. an unsuccessful attempt at beat matching, results in a cacophony of uncorrosponding sounds
