BNSF#740 on UP

At about 17:13 a train, possible UP Q SRNL , passed MP 198.25 Northward on UP Palestine Sub. Just South of Conroe, Tx. Two monster GEs were power! UP#7506 and UP#7538!

At about 18:11 a BNSF train Q HOME J (HOUMEM) went Northward past MP 196 on UP Palestine Sub. BNSF#740 in Heritage II??? was on point with BNSF#3177 GP50 B&Y Santa Fe. I thought all 700 series Dash 9s were Red & Silver Warbonnets.

Bob,
The 739, 740 & 745 are all Heritage 2. They were the test units for the new Heritage 2 and were painted that way from GE when they arrived on the BNSF.

If I remember correctly, BNSF 740 was the first of two locos to be painted in the "Heritage II" livery; the very first locos to be done so. Bob Hicks

Bob,
BNSF 739, 740, and 745 were delivered new wearing Heritage II. These were the first locomotives to wear H2. Most of the 700 class were delivered in warbonnet with BNSF lettering (although some had "Santa Fe" lettering on the cigar band on the nose.) A few units of the 700 class were delivered in gray primer, and operated in revenue service for several days (or weeks) before being painted... again, in the warbonnet scheme.

BNSF 739/740 WERE NOT delivered in H-2.
They were painted at MAC in KC,MO and were test units for that scheme. LAC

[BNSF] Re: BNSF#740 on UP
Hi Bob,
BNSF 739, 740, and 745 were the first three C44-9W's in what became the standard BNSF Heritage II / Premium Heritage paint. I think all three were together posed for some publicity photos way back when.
Hope this helps,
Charles
